Has anyone here ever used category theory in a business (or any purpose other than publishing papers)? (Don't give me "I used a monad once while programming", I mean the kind of stuff that book is about)

In this context, the implied reason is that your still have a bank account if one of the banks decides to close or freeze your account. If you can do without an account altogether (how??), good for you, I guess.

I think people disagree and argue about this so much because each preference is true in that developer's context and environment. Everyone who voices a general opinion should indicate what kind of development they do. How could it poss

It's a regex? Is it even guaranteed to work then? I would think you have to parse non-regular languages to always find the end of a function in a some languages? Indeed, it does not always work correctly for Julia, as an arbitrary ex

The problem in that case is how it's possible "not to track" somebody who pays for the service and accesses content via a paid account, and how it's possible to demonstrate to users how their data is handled. I guess onl

Why exactly do you think it's absurd? Can you give some arguments or explain how you model what a corporation will or won't do? My original post also didn't give argumens. To explain my model: a large corporation will act in

We live in an age where the idea of large corporations is still fairly young (much younger than governments) and where governments are much stronger than corporations. However, if Google could get away with running a police, I think it&#x

So why does that mean Rust will be abandoned in a few decades? Do you think there will be a trend "back" to using C or C++ for systems programming? I would bet against it. I do believe, by the way, that C has stopped evolving (whi

Why do you think it will be abandoned? Programming languages past a certain point don't die easily, especially when used for low-level system programming (otherwise C and C++ would be long dead).

Both can be true at the same time. Big AI companies can be trying for regulatory capture while there may be real dangers, both short-term as well as long term, perhaps even existential dangers. Why do people seem to think evidence for one o

That "pattern" actually indicates that something is true most of the time (after all, a lot of dangerous things really exist). So "noticing" this pattern seems to rely on being all-knowing?

Arduino is "just" C++, it uses gcc to compile after all. There's minimal amounts of text-level meddling in the toolchain that e.g. includes some headers, declares your methods and defines an entry point for you.
