I think the whole point of the article and the discussion is that many people don’t want to do it even when paid enough . Nobody on any of the threads is arguing that you should not be paid more for being on call.

I use Google Calendar because when meetings get changed or updated I would like to know about it at once and not after 15min or 30min or whatever time it takes the default calendar app to get its act together. I also use Google Sheets on iO

Maybe this was specifically done for Chinese but other cultures have the same or similar definitions. In Indian culture, your mother’s sister’s children are like your siblings and not cousins. Whereas your mother’s brother’s children are

Perhaps a better way to phrase it: Twilio’s customers are developers. Their products are built to be used by developers. As an analogy, AWS’s customer is Netflix. Not the end user who is watching a movie that streams out of an EC2 instance.

Twilio’s product is an API. The end-user of (most of) their products are developers.

MongoDB and Twilio have both done reasonably well haven't they? Which developer tools have not done well?

This is a very reasonable and nuanced take. Thanks for sharing.

This is only for new screens. They are still committed to fixing IE11 bugs in existing pages for another year. That they are putting that much effort into it at all is surprising and commendable.

Its less prevalent in Asia than it used to be. I got hit as a kid. It wasnt a big deal. But we dont as a rule, discipline our own son in the same way.

You don't have to download a pirated IDE for starters. There is a wealth of good open source tools and content.

Delphi was great. I remember downloading it (pirated obviously) over a 14k connection. It took like a day. The killer feature was that it could build stand lone executables with no runtime. On one hand I really miss those days. On the other

Is that Steve Jobs letter on App Store policy still on their site? They should really remove that bit since its so obviously false and weakens all of the other guidelines they have.

Nice. Congratulations! A suspect a browser based SaaS version will knock the socks off of what you have now in terms of conversion. Try and find some time to build it.

I had a similar idea for a web based version about 8 years ago. Even ran some Google Ads with a MVP landing page to gauge interest (there was). Finally never got around to building it. Is this a sustainable business for you now? Or just a s

This sounds like it could be a massive competitive advantage for AWS over Azure. It would be difficult for Microsoft to canibalize their Azure Sql sales by building a similar translation layer.

I tried to build a T-Sql-to-pgsql compiler to enable us to migrate our code but ran into some fundamental issues. Sql Server allows you to have arbitrary statements/declarations embedded in your sql queries. It also doesn't requir

This will go well with the Daringfireball crowd but that’s about it. I do like native apps and would prefer them all things being equal. But all things rarely are equal. That’s why I use VSCode instead of Sublime. And Gmail instead of Apple

Sri Lanka ranking well ahead of India is an even bigger red flag. Journalists and editors have been openly killed in Sri Lanka for opinion pieces that dared to tarnish the government.

I don't think its that big a deal. Its a lot of work, for sure, but I think it's table stakes for writing a good text editor. I'm not sure how many good native text editors don't have their own text editing engine.
