The chain of events, as originally laid out[1], was: * OP has paypal payment issue with This. * Friend asks them via twitter "That's not cool. Suspending a friends account because of a minor PayPal dispute? When did you get into doing that?

I guess it depends on the granularity of the algorithm? Imagine a transformation mapping one set of points onto another. If each individual transformation can be calculated with pen&paper, I'd hope the process is not patentable, even i

You would probably fair better doing some research for yourself. Here is wikipedia's entry on the first U.S. lawsuit that established that color could be trademarked: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qualitex_Co._v._Jacobson_Produc... .

Oh FFS, did you even spend a second figuring out what a trademark on a color actually means?

Nah, because a single number defines your position in the world. There is no movement or freedom along the axis you're talking about.

This seems to be one of those stories which has mutated. In the original account, the poster says they inquired about a problem, had their account terminated, and then flipped out. Almost every commenter on HN seems to assume that the acc

"Troubleshooting" takes you to about:support , while "About" is the standard about menu item that pops up version info, credits, and the like. So clearly! your point about it being too confusing is wrong... =P

Really? I've heard mostly good things about motorola build quality. Personally, I've had the OG droid for a year and half now, and it is rock solid -- I've taken terrible care of it, drop it on concrete all the time, and yet it still works

The menu item I'm talking about is "Help->Troubleshooting". The change being considered in the bug is regarding the "About" item.

They would have preferred to go this route in the beginning. I think the main reason at the time for avoiding DOM was actually performance -- probably all the various improvements in browsers since then have changed the situation.

I've never once read a register article and felt enlightened -- I've mentally compartmentalized them as a place to ignore. Did I get the wrong impression, and they can in fact be a useful source of new & commentary?

No? This is exactly the sort of "pedantry" the average user won't care about -- they just click on a menu item to get there.

I'd really be kinda surprised if there wasn't a substantial difference between $10 and $100 headphones. That's not very controversial -- it's the ultra-high end products that have no connection to reality. (Also, they mention Bose is dis

I think you misunderstood -- it's not a goal but a measurement. The actual statement, if you read the original source[1], is > Firefox 7 uses less memory than Firefox 6 (and 5 and 4): often 20% to 30% less, and sometimes as much as 50%

At one point this article asks where everyone who used to use Digg has gone, and yet never once mentions reddit . Even ignoring that, the article is just junk. It says very little, and says it poorly. :(
