Ah, a person advocating a position I agree with, but using terrible+inconsistent arguments. :( For instance: it was always perfectly clear that the BBC's "outrageous statement" was the result of contacting someone within the BBC who didn't

That is almost twice the weight of the smaller Air, with larger dimensions. Since those are pretty much the defining characteristics of the Air, not really an "alternative".

It's still the case that if you're sufficiently far away from a nonspherical object, it'll effectively act like a point source. I'd guess this is what the OP was recalling.

Err, this was several years ago, and I was relaying what other folk with the same device (ASUS 901) reported, not my personal experience. (And not only was this was before the release of Windows 7, it actually came with some version of Xand

I had an old netbook with an SSD. A lot of folk noticed that the performance of the disk got slower over time. Surprisingly, defragging the drive actually improved the performance -- but IIRC it was a side effect of the process, not direc

I remember at some point, Counter-Strike changed the name of most of the weapons, making them more generic/fictional. Apparently they were worried about trademark issues?

Well, Firefox Mobile does sync bookmarks & history. But I think most mobile devices are still limited enough you can't really run a full-featured browser and get good performance -- thus the current lack of a direct Chrome port on Andr

Actually, after reading the entire article that is exactly the impression it gives. -edit- A quick google also leaves the impression that Windows support for USB 3 is new. http://www.google.com/search?q=windows+usb+3+support

I don't quite follow -- in Joel's case, it's assumed that you're tracking the position of all sorts of things -- there isn't one variable that's the relative offset, but a whole host of them that you'd want to give particular semantic nam

I've found Facebook actually loads pretty snappily on bad connections. (The text, anyway. Interactive stuff might hang for a while.)

My favorite (hah!) site that demonstrates this is Twitter.[1] While tethering, it often takes upwards of two minutes to load a page. That seems just a little obscene when the entire useful content of the page is 10 lines of text. (Hmm, may

When I first read the xkcd comic, I was amused that the article on philosophy didn't lead to itself. (It got trapped in a 2-cycle.) Then I noticed that this was only because of an edit someone had made earlier in the day...

I have to say, after switching from Ubuntu to OSX I was not exactly blown away by the UI. Some things were done better, some things worse -- the mac might have an edge but it's a small one. And while I haven't wasted much time solving arca

HP made personal computers before they bought Compaq. The headline is misleading, because it implies they would continue those lines while only spinning off Compaq.

Ok, I obviously don't understand how this is an exploit of this particular system. It just sounds like a plan to pay for things with fraudulent checks, which folk have been doing forever.

The scam and your idea seem fundamentally different. I'm not sure exactly how this ExchB thing works, but since your exploit involves personally writing a bad check, and then cashing it at a bank... seems like you would end up being liable.

Regarding the platform: I don't know how relevant it is, but Minecraft was written in Java. Android apps are normally written in Java. Maybe this was simply the path of least resistance?
