I used to try to work a bit on physics articles. That actually wasn't the problem there -- the problem is that there are so many cranks, and they (being cranks) are so insistent on their incorrect views that it becomes a constant, tiri

I know that for me, loading of content while scrolling is terrible . On a forum where few images are shown, I find that quickly scrolling to the bottom of a page results in a pretty noticeable pause before rendering content. It seems to b

I recently read about a Mozilla authored extension that gives you more performance insight. I think some features only work with special FF builds right now, though. :) http://www.visophyte.org/blog/2012/02/04/aboutnosy-is-aboutm...

I wouldn't say the Linux support was horrible. It's a bit of a pain to get it installed to begin with, but that seemed an issue with how locked down macs are... Once I had Ubuntu running, everything worked out of the box. The main issue w

Why did you even bother to mention this? I'd think it goes without saying that there will clusters of people who don't smoke. Your last line seems to imply that you doubt the results of the study, but that's a bit ridiculous to do based on

Chess/Go/Checkers are one category of game where luck plays no part, but not the only one. The thing they all have in common are 2 players and perfect information. Then there are games like Stratego, which have no 'luck' but require you to

For a long time, reddit's mobile interface was broken in anything other than webkit, entirely because of a single -webkit CSS rule they were using to display the voting arrows. If just a few really popular sites have broken mobile sites b

Anytime there was a post about firefox mobile on /r/reddit, folk came out of the woodwork saying they would never even consider using it until it supported flash. (Which, interestingly, it now does.) I have no fucking idea what people find

They didn't say 'complete the standardization process before implementing'. I think the idea is to start the process, so that you don't just show up at the door with a fully working implementation leaving others to play catch-up.

Bespin didn't choose Canvas on a whim. IIRC they initially prototyped with divs and found that performance simply wasn't good enough. Since then browsers implementations have advanced such that this is no longer so -- it didn't make the in

I recently discovered padmapper while apt hunting, and it's a godsend. It scrapes craigslist for data and posts it to a map. The killer feature is obviously to be able to look at a region and see what's available, but the filtering options

Sure, but the forward button hasn't been removed -- you can still use it, but only when there's actually a forward stack. I think the ratio of back to forward button uses was something like 100:3 in that study. (I rarely use either button -
