He said on Twitter that he was working with a contractor on it, but it fell through. I think my app has polish, and it's slowly getting better, but most of it based on the official app adapted to Android UX patterns. Either way, Marco is ni

Metafilter's $5 sign-up fee is incredibly smart. I imagine it brings in a decent amount of income and it really keeps the community top notch.

Yeah, it's really not much of a problem. Especially now that Google is working on their own push notification service there really shouldn't be a need for that many background services.

I believe the fast app switching is more or less the same, but Android lets developers write services that can do anything in the background, isn't iOS limited to just audio or VOIP? For example, I can't write an app to download new tweets

I like Disqus and how easy it is to implement, but does anyone else feel like it is cluttered? I don't want a commenting system that allows me to "like" comments, vote them up or down, subscribe via email, etc. To be fair though, I'm sure a

I wonder why Conde Nast even bought reddit in the first place. It's cool that they let them run the web site as an independent entity more or less, but it really seems like they don't like supporting them (see Reddit Gold).

I know most people always comment on how the Diaspora project is destined to fail, and they're probably right. However, there's no denying how awesome it is that a few college kids can raise over $100,000 like this to build their project. E

On a more positive note, does this mean he is working on Facebook's Android app? If so, that's great, it's really _really_ terrible.

You can, but it's not easy and it's definitely not something a normal consumer would do. Although I imagine the people buying the Nexus Ones from the developer site aren't normal consumers.

The Nexus One is the only modern Android phone (besides the original Motorola Droid) that runs pure Android- it doesn't have any of the additional software like HTC Sense or Motorola Blur. It's also usually the first to receive updates, it

I agree with your tethering comment, but FWIW there are a handful of tethering apps you can get without rooting Android that allow any user to tether for free.

The sad thing about task killers is how many "normal" people will end up using them because some salesperson for carrier X has told them to do so. Go to a Verizon store and look at their Android phones, I bet most of them have a task killer
