I definitely agree that the standard of the comments and articles used to be significantly higher. I definitely see a lot of parallels between the comments on HN currently and those on Reddit 5-6 years ago. Luckily it seems like HN resists

You are correct, but you can splice DC power onto one end of an Ethernet cable exactly like this to power PoE devices. It is quite effective, but is more dangerous than using an injector because it will supply power to non-PoE devices.

There are ways to deal with some of the overhang issues with proper tooling though. Regardless, as I said, 3D printing definitely wins in the complexity capability, overhangs are just one of them.

It however isn't difficult to do this for a 3-axis machine. in fact, the way he describes building layer by layer is exactly how you make complex shapes on a 3-axis mill. You essentially trace a line on the surface that you are trying

I would say that his costs are a bit conservative even. $10/hr is not realistic for providing support unless you outsource it (I don't have a clue how much that would cost). The actual employee price is significantly higher than just the wa

I work in hardware, and wanted to give my perspective on this. Designing and building hardware is expensive, really expensive. If you don't take the time to follow proper procedures you are not only wasting your time, but often hundreds to

I was reading this story and found myself smiling after every paragraph because I had gone through pretty much the exact same story. Except that it was a Nintendo Wii soon after it came out. In my case the police officer that got the guys i

I'm don't think I agree with this, I've been giving Codecademy a try recently to learn Python. I don't feel like I am any closer to actually building anything useful because all it has taught me is some syntax. I think the issue is because

A certain other Canadian bank only allows passwords with a length of 6, no more, no less. This bugs me to no end with how insecure it is. I believe their excuse is because the same password is used for your phone banking password and that o

The problem (at least when I last looked) was that Chrome's extension framework just plain makes it impossible to create an extension that supports side tabs properly. I find Firefox uses less RAM on my machine and the extensions work far b

I fully agree, and I had professors at my school that also believed in this. Educational institutions need to modernize their teaching methods to ensure that students are actually committed to their education and have disincentive to cheat.

As someone that has built many Li-ion batteries, there isn't any acid. The only liquid that could have possibly oozed out is the electrolyte, which is an organic solvent with lithium salts in it (which is somewhat hazardous).

Very fast turn around, low quantity molds (~25 parts) is one of the few extremely promising possibilities for rapid prototyping. For speed you just can't beat the speed that you can get with this method, you can have fully functional parts
