The vitamin D in cod liver oil actually comes from the algae the cod eats, so a pill based on that algae is closer to it's original state than the oil.

I wonder why you think I haven't seen that video as it's been posted here multiple times and I've commented on it. I was commenting on why I should care about what Nassim Taleb thinks about carbs. He's not a particularly svelte or athletic

Nassim Taleb had one obvious idea that he milked for two books. I'm not sure why he's qualified to comment about anything outside of derivatives trading. (or derivatives trading, either, since his funds melted down when he was actively invo

Do you have any friends? Modern careers leave people estranged from their families and without any real friends. Although programmers like to believe their Asperger's syndrome or Randian individualism means they don't need a social or famil

I lived in Tokyo for a year. However, most of the stuff I remember was outside of Tokyo. Tokyo was like a giant urban blur. The main thing I remember in Tokyo as a tourist destination was the Tokyo Tower. The rest of the time I just randoml

It's well known that Ted Turner has bipolar disorder. From my anecdotal experience, most other entrepreneurs do, too. ;) If you aren't good at programming, you don't necessarily have to start a software company. I know many people who left

But will the radio work? I guess that is what I'm really asking... if the radio in the phone will work with networks in the USA, Japan and Australia. I'm going to add that to my original post.

Is there a list somewhere of the countries in which an unlocked iPhone will work with a prepaid sim? I read on Fred Wilson's blog that it works in the UK (and presumably the rest of Western Europe). I am specifically wondering about Austral

The problem isn't whether or not it should be illegal... It's that it is actually illegal. Not just jaywalking illegal, it's possibly go to jail illegal. Some places don't really care, or it is quasi legal, but some places still care. Whe

I wish this were possible, but the difficulty in doing this is massive. If you are not U.S born, it's QUITE difficult to simply walk in and start a company in the U.S. How do all the Chinese/Korean/Indian people in the US do it? I often r

I don't know why it's such a bad thing to give welfare assistance to young single mothers. This should be extended to all mothers regardless of marital status or age. Parenting in America has turned into a scary, expensive headache, rather

If you put in 150K annually, paid bi-weekly instead of 12,500 monthly, it comes out closer to $6800. I tried yours and got $7,490. Your Pay Check Results Bi-weekly Gross Pay $5,769.23 Federal Withholding $1,351.36 Social Security $357.69 Me

I don't know how you are getting that. I made $150K in California and my paycheck was about 3400 every 2 weeks, which is what that site says, too.

Sure, whatever. I guess it depends on the graduate program. Computer scientist PhDs are generally fat. Kinesiology grad students are usually fit. Everyone else is somewhere in between. I am not providing a link, because I don't care.

63% of all adult Americans are overweight or obese, graduate students included. In poor areas it is hard to swap bad calories for good, because there is no place to get good food cheaply. I don't know about Jersey City, but in Queens there

The stakes are already as low as they can get. There is no shortage of postdocs who will work for peanuts. In relation to tenure, what you are proposing is already in place. When a tenured prof dies, they don't replace him, they just hire 2

The sciences, I suppose, are a far different ballgame... if you don't make it to a tenure track position or want to skip the whole postdoc nightmare altogether, you can always get a good job in industry Unless your science PhD is in Biolo

Sort of surprising. Less so for the salaries of the philosophy profs, which were around what I expected. More so for the big salaries of the other profs. Someone who is a B-school prof isn't necessarily going to make $300K in industry. I me
