   I got a PhD in a related field at an American university, and can give my 2c: - It sounds like you're conflating getting a PhD with working in academia. There are _many_ jobs in the industry that prefer PhDs, especially in AI/lear

   When I was a grad student at Stanford she was one of the TAs for the main ML class (CS229). I can personally attest that she has solid technical skills and is quite sharp. (I got my PhD in EE at Stanford around the same time)
