Of course it's the logical conclusion. Power abhors a vacuum. Do you honestly think that companies are going to sit back and not try to take that power for themselves?

I'm sorry, but I cannot take any of those arguments seriously. They are all coming from a point of corporate worship, to the point where one believes that a company can do absolutely no wrong.

Well, if it's the typical person who does pitch "Facebook for Farmers", I'd say the fear is kinda rational, as those people never intend to do any of the work. They just had the idea, and now you need to go make it happe

I cannot disagree with you enough. Last I saw, you cannot interact with the rest of the system from Windows bash. I can install Sublime Text on my Mac, and launch it from the terminal, for example. I can't do that with the Windows syst

Nowhere near the same. Last I checked, Microsoft kinda put it over in the corner, where it can be it's own little thing, but not a first class citizen of the system like UNIX is on macOS.

"It's silly to think that the function keys and the ESC keys are used so little that they can be removed altogether." Not on macOS, at least for the Fn keys. Having a context aware row of buttons that will actually give some

But would it also not require developers to build support into their programs for it? At least on that front, Apple would have a far easier time getting support and buy in from developers than a random Windows OEM.

I'm glad you can do that, but I'm not going to. The only time I really use those keys is for the brightness/media controls.

Presumably, the bar is going to be context aware. So you could set it to display a normal function key setup. You might even be able to customize it yourself, so you could make keys for it.

And what's the alternative? Allow them to go without insurance? Ok, but what happens when they do get sick or injured? Who pays for it then?

The reason it was lower is because your pre-existing condition simply wouldn't be covered, and just about any other claim would be initially denied, citing the pre-existing condition as a reason. Now that's not an option.

Right now? Same reason anywhere else outside of SV isn't one. Momentum. The money is in SV, and has absolutely no desire to move anywhere else.

If they want us to be responsible, then they need to give us what we need when we say we need it. You're saying they should be able to make us cut corners and then support it. You don't get to have your cake and eat it, too.

No, that's not it, because usually management doesn't give a shit about that. Even if you have the paper trail, they're still going to say, "Quit whining; it's 3 AM and stuff doesn't work. Fix it."

The problem is, those problems with the code end up becoming the fires that you then have to fix on your off time. You think you have your ass covered, but management isn't going to give a shit that you have this paper trail. They'

Most people who advocate "market solutions" always assume perfectly rational actors, and forget that they're basically making it so only the rich can do whatever it is they're advocating for.

So how do they get that wealth while still being able to live in their home? Or, to put it another way, why should they no longer be able to live in their home just because the market went crazy?
