Well, Facebook bought the Israeli startup Onavo explicitly so they could track which new social apps are starting to become popular on user phones, so they could quickly acquire those or copy their features and kill the competition.

1. Is this much repair indicative of abnormal use, or are Apple products not really robustly designed? 2. Why are repairs so damn expensive? Several hundred dollars each to repair a scratched screen or replace a torn earcup fabric!?!?!?!?

Regolith is literally just i3 (plus Gnome) with sane defaults. FWIW, it's also slowly getting decoupled from the underlying Ubuntu infrastructure. Eg, here's regolith for Arch linux: https://github.com/gardotd426&#

IIUC, Mailspring (Nylas?) inserted their own cloud layer in between your device and a cloud email provider, to store email and provide "value added" features; so it's not cloud-free and requires trusting one more entity.

Since it’s not exactly clear to me… what’s the idea behind the project? Is it just being able to compile generic (linear algebra like) beam forming code for XLA/GPU backed a with self-tuning parameters? Is is more than that?

It’s “data humans might be interested in” rather than “data as we happen to implement using semiconductor circuits”. “Data-centric” is an overloaded concept that means different things to different groups of people (all legitimate).
