Strange as it is, I was just researching whether it was possible to search Google truly anonymously - stumbled upon a Firefox add-on called Searchonymous [0]. Planning on trying it out today. If all else fails, can always use another search

Maybe, but in this case there are millions (billions?) of people that can attest to Google's practices.

There are several projects working to put power back in the hands of general consumers, rather than enterprise businesses. DataWallet[0], for example, is building blockchain-based data hub for users to manage their data, in such a way that

How would you prevent a rogue developer from updating/deleting events? Even if you could tell from the hashes that something changed, you would lose whatever data the dev changed. Backups can help mitigate this, but not until after the

What if the product was a framework for sourcing, aggregating, and visualizing data? When the user is put in control, you don't need to trust the product to do these things for you - it simply enables you to do what you want. I think t

Everyone I know who uses it wishes they had gone with TypeScript. Anecdotal for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if most Flow users felt this way - TS is winning in basically every way.

Sadly this is fairly commonplace in IP contracts. Though some companies provide potential hires with an option to list "own inventions" wherein he/she can list projects they may continue to develop in their own time and retai

I hate to say it, but it looks like they addressed all my concerns. Except for the fact that I briefly enabled sync, thinking it was for cross-device tab syncing (silly me).

It's not HN's job to inspect every code block to determine if it's _actually_ code. If you use the code syntax, it's code. That's the assumption that every markdown renderer makes, and I wouldn't expect anyone

Agree - Amazon could very easily add a QR page to their mobile app, and install scanners at registers that fetch a customer's Prime account. No cashier questioning necessary. If you want Prime benefits at Whole Foods, scan your phone.

This article title bugs me because it implies that Google _inherently deserves_ to make $50m from a game that they neither developed nor previously offered through the Play Store. IMO, they're not losing _anything_ - they're just

It's tough to capture subjective features of data - like what a user means by rating something 4 stars - since the interpretation of each star value could mean something different to each user. But there is a (somewhat) simple solution

There are definitely some patterns you can abstract away for making CSS grids, but to me they're so simple (and fun to implement) that in most cases it's just easier to do it yourself.
