I'm using SQLAlchemy to access external data sources to build reports on. Essentially, I'm using it as a dumb BI connector (mostly to access a Databricks metastore), while my Django ORM manages any app information. I'm not s

I'd like to see this. I don't have anything I can share publicly, but I've been making stuff with Django, htmx, SQLAlchemy and plotly and I've found it to be pretty robust

10 or so years ago I spent a long time customizing a DAW workstation on Arch using JACK and Ardour and a lot of other utilities. It had a steep learning curve and a lot of configuration but I loved the freedom JACK granted to wire applicati

I really love DuckDB for one-offs and analytics and I wonder if anybody here has experience using with medium size data. I still seem to run into the workflow problem where data has to be in proximity to compute in order to function. If I n

The war on drugs and the war on terror is the same war. We stage coups in democratic countries, then we install puppet leaders. Then we start growing, harvesting, or selling drugs there. Then we move on to the next country. Check out the hi

This is brilliant . (Mubi is apparently similar, which I hadn't yet seen.) From a user's perspective, this is ultimately the best case scenario for siloed content. The editorial perspective offered by the steaming service provide

I think the crossover part of the diagram pretty much consists of Creative-Commons film producers, who are few and far between.

This issue can also be explained a bit by illustrating some of the divides that make up party lines. The call to arrest Snowden has been echoed by both political parties. The mainstream of both parties is very pro-surveillance. While survei

I think Mike Hearn's essay was pretty disingenuous. Most of the people I know who have issues with XT have issues that go far beyond forking. For example, some of the code included in XT includes blacklisting code. It also would break

That's fine, then. Leave the checkboxes out. But at least give consumers the option. Even if it's in Advanced Settings, just like every other obscure privacy invading Microsoft feature. > It's a feature, not a bug. Really?

There was also a story that broke a while ago that text files in text editor would get stored in the cloud by default, even if they were not saved.

Why isn't this a feature that consumers can have? The line I always hear from Microsoft apologists is that "You can turn these features off at any time", but everything I've seen suggests this is only true for Enterprise

I installed Ubuntu for two non-technical people I know. There's a bug in Ubuntu where old kernel packages are kept on the boot partition and not uninstalled. These accumulate, and quickly (<6months) fill up the boot partition. This

IPFS is not like freenet where nodes host content -- it is more similar to bittorrent, where you broadcast the files that you have available on your node. Copyright violations will likely function in a similar route to bittorrent.
