Yup. And besides, it's been clear for a good while now that it boils down to personal protection and keeping hospital capacity at bay. Yet there is so much illogical fear of "antivaxxers/unvaccinated" in the vaccinated c

Yeah I just saw your rsync example above and it's indeed a very nice feature, to not have authentication, because at those times that I would need this I would certainly not feel up to hassling with installing/setting up Gotify (I

That's so beautiful I wanna cry! :D 25 years ago is exactly when I started hanging out on the internet and that's how it all looked like back then. That professor is awesome for keeping it. Most recent update seems to be 2012.

You seem to be missing my points as well. I also said the FDA is needed, but just that regulating "snake oil" is a slippery slope and not really viable in a lot of cases. Like if you try to regulate audiophiles you're going t

Wait, weren't we discussing 70's, 80's and 2017 devices as mentioned in the OP? What are you even saying? We should restrict selling fish to only those who actually need omega-3 and vitamin-D? Or that we've been fishing

With the miniscule differences combined with the subjectivity of it all it's just really hard (or practically impossible) to prove that the developer/salesman actually doesn't hear a positive improvement. Audiophiles salesm

Just for the argument's sake, audiophile gear is by definition highly subjective and as such, it's the one area where pretty much every product could be defined as snake oil, haha. Regulating that would be a bureaucratic nightmare

So what's the argument against selling perfectly functioning equipment to people? Why not oversee/regulate the market and allow good products while disallowing snake oil?

None of the above. Now it's pretty much all of the above. Maybe I should try heroin again. For science! Edit: Seriously though, at that time I also tried/used a number of other substances and none of them were anywhere remotely cl

This is highly plausible. Nicotine addiction seems to differ from individual to individual as well. I know people who smoke for years, then just one day decide to quit and do it without any issues[0] and stay off it for a couple of months o

Personal anecdote. I tried (smoking) heroin once, out of curiosity, and I beg to disagree. It was really nice and calming. Then 30 minutes laters I got the urge and wanted more. Then felt nice again. Then 20 minutes later I wanted more. The

First of all, if you look at healthy children - especially boys - it looks like risks of myocarditis is actually larger than complications from contracting the virus. For older people that's not a concern, but for children I'd lis

Ok, I don't know that much about SSRI's but I have a hard time believing that withdrawal symptoms (after 10 days of use) would be worse than a Covid case warranting treatment (= a serious one). MABs not working on Omicron was new
