To me, iMessage on the Mac is almost a sad indictment of just how little progress has been made in computing in the last 2 decades. It's a feature that was obvious back when we were all using Nokia 3310s. Connect phone and computer a

IMO this is why Chromebooks are taking over education.

Not a chance IMO. One major reason why native apps work is platform integration - both from an HCI perspective as well as a technology one. PWA and WASM will never be able to achieve these things.

It's not quite that simple though, because plenty of high profile apps have gone through large rewrites from native to Electron. Skype is probably the biggest offender here, taking an app that was actually quite good and turning it int

You have to live somewhere though, and in NZ cities rents are high enough that they prevent many renters from saving any money at all. So, no, supply and demand theory kinda doesn't stack up when it comes to housing.

What they're actually doing is increasing the difficulty for local buyers by increasing demand and pushing up prices, and taking money away from them while simultaneously lining the pockets of existing property owners. Foreign owners a

In addition to the issues around lack of industry familiar wtih apartments, many native NZers don't want to live in apartments as it doesn't fit their culture or way of life.

Depending on how heavily coupled the legacy codebase is, "Simple refactoring" really may not cut it. I mean, you can write a bunch of pinning tests, then try to prise out various bits and pieces, sure. But what if all the stuff yo

I agree that there is a bit of a cyclical nature to the homogeneity of music, but the homogenisation we've seen in the last 15 years has been unprecedented in modern times. It's not just the genres, it's also the people invol

I get the same rush if I fire up older hardware. Installing some random old OS onto real hardware is still as thrilling as it ever was. Far more thrilling than having Windows 10 invade itself onto some modern soulless fucking lounge bar. I

I can't stand Medium or understand at all how it has become so popular. Facebook is constantly trying to outgrow what it should be, and the more it does this the less nice it becomes. Twitter I have little issue with though, amazingly.

Music is, in the last 15 years, demonstrably homogenising though (in regards to what could be considered mainstream). So at least in that regard it's arguably much worse than it was 15 years ago when many different genres were alive an
