You should tell your mom that there are fewer abortions when women are given access to them. It's counter intuitive but there's data to back it up. Bill Clinton said it best: abortion should be safe legal and rare.

It doesn't work. Look at Obama's infamous, "cling to guns and religion." Do you know what point he was making? He was trying to explain to those of us with good jobs on the coast that middle america had been passed over

I'm one of the few people I know who is an enthusiastic supporter of Hillary. I like her because of her track record on children's issues, 9-11 and the Iran deal (among others). I'm also conservative so I like that the last t

For me it underscores one simple rule: you backups are useless if you don't regularly practice restoring from them.

How would you feel if a fellow developer left in the circumstances described? Jealous. I would want to leave too and would be pissed that I hadn't found a new job yet. If you were a dev manager or hired this developer, how would

I think you can absolutely diagnose an hour-long daily standup as "wrong". Standups need to be limited to 10-15 minutes. That's one of the key tenants of standups: they need to be short and focused.

I think this is a great point. Expecting companies not to act in their own best interest is foolish. It's also foolish to expect our elected officials to act in the citizens' best interest rather than for their donors. Instead, le

It's impossible to prove a contra positive so we'll never know if it was Comey, or the Russians or what that put him over the top. But, Trump did get himself within striking distance. So, I give him credit(?) for the birther movem

The economist had an interesting write up of this past election. The found the single biggest determinant for how a county would vote was how sick that county was. I can't even see how that would be correlated with the news.

There are plenty of debates in science. The debate over gravity would have been a good example because you had serious people in both sides of the debate and something approaching the truth came to be the consensus. There is not a similar d

I think the discussion of sources will be very interesting. There is a strong national interest in restoring faith in our electoral process. This is why so many were appalled at certain accusations that the election was "rigged".

Let's keep the discussion to the technical aspects of the attack. The democrat vs republican antagonism doesn't belong on hacker news.

Check out the webpack style loader if you don't want to go full inline with the styles. We had to monkey patch Module.prototype.require to get mocha happy with "requiring" sass files but it was only half a days work. Now, sty

Are you comparing node to C or Go or something else? It's funny, my big a-ha moment on performance happened when I was working at a bank and could only code in vba (i.e. excel). All of a sudden -- even on small data sets -- O(n^2) was

It's not cheaper for your employer. Your employer will typically cover some of the cost of health care then leave the rest for you to cover. When you leave a job, you have to pay both the premium you've been paying plus the premiu
