Even with CPU rendering, there will be differences depending on the specific software libraries and system configuration, e.g. aliasing settings. Patches to one of the pieces of software doing rendering could create pixel level differences

For anyone interested, the problem with homebrew is it relies on "/usr/local" being owned by the current user to allow installing software without needing a password every time you invoke "brew". Naturally this

One of the citations, http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks/4.73.html#subj10.1 has more information about the incident, and some interesting insight from Mr. Hubbard. "I have to wonder what other RPC services are ope

As a 23 y/old younger (well, young-ish) dev, it strikes me that this isn't anything new. Old commercial solutions since nearly the beginning have been predicated on proprietary solutions specific to some vendor's UNIX based O

To some people, soldering isn't a big deal. To others, having to do a full drive reformat may be as intimidating as using a soldering iron. Contrast to the second point, where non-autonomous quadrocopters are emphatically not "dro

Just for a dissenting opinion, I use both types of scope syntax on a regular basis and prefer the Algol-ish one. I personally find it easier to reason about where code blocks begin/end when they're explicitly marked. Makes movin

The key is that they're statically linked. Even so, you will begin to run into some issues in that time frame. My last experience trying to deal with ancient Linux binaries on an ARMv5 device running linux 2.4 was pretty abysmal. There

You're right -- I didn't mean to imply that's why eGPUs aren't supported right now, I meant I suspect it's a policy change, and Apple plans to move to more integrated drivers in the future, so in "Courage!"

Unfortunately it looks like they're taking the opposite approach, and phasing out even AMD drivers, with eGPUs apparently (?) not supported on M1 devices. It seems they want to phase out all non Metal APIs. (Which is to say, I bet the

Purely speculating here, but Thunderbolt allows for pretty substantial power to be sent bidirectional. It's conceivable that the excess power could be used for that or some other peripheral. I know I can charge my MBP off the excess po

This really depends. Once-upon-a-time, at least in the UNIX (tm) world, there were a plethora of ISAs, and this was the environment where ideas like Java really made sense. Write once, run anywhere. Most OSes are still pretty well situated

What UNIX are you thinking of? Even the Berkeley distribution appeared to require a license from AT&T to use, for V7 UNIX. Anything with AT&T's code was litigiously protected, culminating in a law suit in the 90s against 4.4BSD

Until 2019 Apple sold 13 inch MBPs without the touchbar, and these models did not have a T2 chip. They are still miserable computers to run Linux on, although I think the original 2016 touchbar-less MBP performs better than all the rest, al
