I’m on the fence. I definitely see your point, it’s solid. But I also think this (even only 5 million) incentivizes more of the same. It’s no stretch to see we’re in for an increasing amount of this.

At some point though, if everything is solid, known, accepted scientific fact, there’s not much room for the “fi” in sci-fi.

That part of the movie, about the moon landing history being purposely witheld from kids, just devastated me.

In free fall, in a strong gravity field, you would be torn apart. Just as comets nearing A gas giant, except many times more forcefully. One end of you is attracted more than the other. In a strong enough field, you would become a string of

Which “developing” countries are running world class fabs these days? Taiwan and South Korea are definitely first-world countries, as much so as the US.

It almost sounds like you are saying that if China sailed ships in international waters it would start a war. They do that all the time, and have been doing so for decades. Did I miss a world war?

What Facebook really believes is that they can escalate this and buy themselves a few months even knowing they will eventually loose. Whether or not it is eventually enforced, they’ve bought some time and they can easily afford the cost.

The parent is not saying exposure to Cov-1 provides long-term immunity to Cov-2. Why are you confusing this? It says exposureto Cov-2 provides long-term immunity to Cov-2, as you would expect.

I wonder if cheese, in this case, is a proxy for "not eating a low-fat diet"? Since low-fat eating usually (but not necessarily) involves eating more "low fat" sugary, processed items, seed oils, and refined carbs, than

Didn't Blue Origin, as a company, start 2 years before Space X did? This is the strange part to me. Blue Origin started sooner, has a billion dollars a year of cash from Bezos, and still seems pretty far behind. I'm hoping New G

Not sure. When I think of the assembly line, I remember Henry Ford, not the president at the time. Airplanes, the Wright brothers, discovery of DNA, Crick and Watson, etc. So there are counter examples, but I think you have a point that pol

If you and I were walking down the street and saw a dead cat on the side of the road, I would tell you that cat was possibly hit by a car, and I'd be justified in saying that. I have only two pieces of circumstantial evidence: the loca

I think more than a left-right thing, this is a different axis. Some people are just more fearful in general. I've been surprised by friends of my same political persuasion that have acted in ways I would honestly need to call, not-qui

A “conspiracy theory” implies a cover up. That’s very different than a hypothesis. Many hypotheses start out with no direct evidence, just an insight. Relativity is a good example. The hypothesis that Covid-19 escaped from a laboratory alre

Same here, writing code seems to map better to what you would step through solving the equations by hand. You can see how the equation “works”. But it may be, that I just haven’t gotten my mind wrapped around the concept of programming with
