What is your plan to attract bands to the platform?

I was in a similar position as you (except instead of pursuing a web development certificate I was debating dropping out entirely, after having success with a side project and various development jobs). Although I would have done just fine

Two years ago I posted Musi here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6987738 Since then, I managed to grow it to be one of the top 100 apps in the App Store. It's been a trip.

Interesting site. I love the ability to narrow down apps through an advanced search. However, I feel like it rewards apps with keywords in their titles over those that don't. Consider someone searching for "music". It's

I've never minded it since my experiences have always involved pay at market rate. I'd be much more wary about doing a take home task for free.

After a basic call to make sure that the culture fit is ok and to learn some background about someone, I believe the best way is to assign a small (4-10 hour), realistic, paid (market rate) task for the interviewee to work on. I don't

In my experience they just act as a mediator. I haven't seen them really do anything other than nag - it's all up to the developer to be compliant. However, these were cases where it wasn't a clear right and wrong. In OP'

At the end of the day, for me, it comes down to the content when considering why I visit the site. HN constantly has interesting, engaging content, and for the most part, insightful discussions. Although, it can get pretty pedantic at times

For which type of goods? At least for mens fashion, one secondhand site that has blown up recently would be Grailed ( http://grailed.com ).

Based off of OP's user demographics, I'm really doubtful that a donate option would convert 5-10% or make him any considerable money at all. I own a similarly popular free app and I offer an option to pay a very small fee to remov

I've been an iOS developer for around 5 years and I do not use storyboards, Interface Builder, or autolayout for any complex interfaces. In the past, I've used these tools for laying out simple/medium complexity applications

I love the idea of minimum viable products. They can be cheap and effective for rapidly testing business ideas and getting mass user feedback. However, one shouldn't confuse an MVP with an alpha or a beta. If you release an MVP, it sho

Note that this "workout" isn't going to put on much (if any) muscle mass nor will it help you lose significant weight. Resistance training and diet is required for the former and diet is absolutely everything for the latter.

The first few workouts are tough. As a beginner I could squat heavy 3x a week for the first 6ish months, increasing weight per workout. Now it's 2 days heavy and 1 day light.

I built Musi ( http://feelthemusi.com and value it at roughly $125k. It's extremely lean to run, has tens of thousands of users (most of which are active), brings in a decent amount of advertising revenue, has a pretty nice

This is a new incarnation and update of the app. Throughout 2013 Musi hit some small blogs, national (Canadian) television, and local news. Very slow buildup to the user base that it has now.

I'm extremely humble by nature, and the original title took a little bit of nerve to pull off, as did the paragraph. It attracts views though, which is what marketing is about.

Before the 4.0 update, Musi had optional accounts. However, the conversation rate was basically zero. Now, I'm trying to promote inter-app sharing of music which requires accounts. For the utility that the app provides and the price

Hey HN, So I'm a music lover. I regularly have binges where I'll play the same song over and over for hours - especially when I'm in a coding groove and just hammering through work. There are also times that I find a song t
