I heard the hype. Figured I would give it a try. Installed emacs with nix Install spacemacs on top of new emacs. Throws odd errors. Uninstall emacs with nix Install emacs with brew Install spacemacs on top of emacs It works! To pull users

Installed emacs with nix last weekend to use with spacemacs. Three errors at startup that didn't make sense but I had a feeling that nix was the problem so rolled back and reinstalled with brew. Worked perfectly. Nix has some great ide

This doesn't change the affordability bit, but IDEA is working on a web hosted IDE. They are rolling it out as an online code review tool first, with nice features like goto definition, but eventually going to full run tests or edit co

I really enjoyed this article, largely because I saw the author take 5 hours to do this and go through all of the same pains I do when I attempt to make a contribution to an open source project. There is always part of me that feels I am no

Maybe, but to be clear Li Haoyi writes a ton of very well typed Scala code. It just happens he used Python for this particular blog post. I did not get the feeling that this was just the perspective of a programmer working in a dynamically

I picked up two of the github keys. Never did get them working under OS X. Plug them in and nothing, not recognized by any of their tools, no new keyboard recognized prompt, nothing. Anyone else have trouble with them on OS X?

Taking a quick look the examples are better out of the gate than slicks docs are after a couple of years. Great examples are worth a lot in my book.

That is my understanding as well. That it will be Scala "Don Giovanni", which I believe will be Scala 2.14, or maybe they will bump it to 3.0 at that point.

Agreed. I watch a lot of sports and have been disappointed that they removed slow motion and frame by frame advance years ago and have little interest in adding it back. Still, I am paid for Plex pass to support them because I find it works

Some static languages do have techniques for dealing with heterogenous lists. It is getting hard to find someone talking about a scala library these days without hearing them mention their use of hlist.

I thought he did a good job with atomic Scala and recommended it to a friend who wanted to see if programming might be for him. It did a really nice job of walking you through the language without assuming prior knowledge.

I do like parallel_tests for rspec but specifically like that TLB is multiplatform as we use many test engines in my shop for our Ruby, JS, Scala, C#, and Swift code. I don't mind installing a jvm but really appreciate setting up one s
