Entitled, eh? Some assumptions being made about people's ability to afford and access the physical books. I've got cash, plenty of people around me don't and I don't begrudge their piracy. I pay, see below, when I was yo

I worry there's a bit of HN bias here. I don't know anyone whose partner owns an investment management firm or similar. I know a fair few day jobbing musicians and creatives of other stripes though, only one of which with parents

I think the interesting thing about this article is how quaint it feels five years on. In terms of methods, sure, but also the goal. There's this implicit assumption that a) ML could effectively spot bad actors, and b) this is a fight

What's beautiful about the tradition is an acknowledgement of a fundamental connectedness of all things. Some may scoff, but as a young man I had a nice little mushroom trip, topped off with a little baby woodrose in the hills above an

I made wine last year, a really fun process. I'm not particularly into wine, but my wife is and I live in a wine country so we thought we'd give it a try. We used some grapes from the garden and a load we bought, our process was r

I guess use case is everything. There are numerous reasons, not least of which confidentiality, why chatgpt is a no go for me. What I'd like to see more of is systematic comparison between chatgpt and classic models. I was hoping to se

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. If you're running 500k in tokens through through someone else's hallucination-prone computer and paying for the privilege, I want to know why that's any better than something like SetFit. All I saw

OK, not gonna argue with that. There is, I guess, a perception that it matters because policy-makers, and the wonks and hacks that influence them are hooked. The value for me (and ergo the public, some classic NGO thinking there for you) li

The thing with social media platforms is that this data is user-generated, so you've got the company "owning" user content. This data is often of great public value. I track conversations around a social issue as part of my w

I think there's nothing wrong with exploring them. By the sounds of it OP is not keen, but if the concern is career then there's something to be said for being able to say "I had a look and it wasn't for me." I'
