For Bay Area HN folks: check out what San Jose has done with the bike lanes downtown recently. Separation from traffic using a combo of parked cars and barriers.

Yeah, seriously. This coin mining phase has turned finding a decent GPU into a real pain.

Ben, this looks like a great tool - you're doing an awesome job, keep up the good work. Question for you: The benefits of using this as a private-Heroku-on-public cloud are obvious, but in the nicest way possible, why would/should

That's actually a fair point, I hadn't considered this angle. Although I suppose it's not a new danger per se, I'm sure people have robbed convenience stores using Airsoft guns and similar.

Realistically, how effective would a 3D printed firearm be? I was under the impression that PLA/ABS plastics are simply not that strong of a material.

For the interested, the unannounced game referenced in the article, "RTS3", is in fact Age of Mythology, released in 2002.

This is very well said. I made a ton of online-only friends with whom I've since met up with over the years. These were enabled by old school phpBB forums, gaming clans, things like that. I don't feel that any personal connection

What is the advantage of applying for one as a FOSS project as opposed to squatting?

Somewhat misleading title, I think - the phrase "Get another chance at life" implied to me there was perhaps some clemency involved; that does not appear to be the case after reading the article.

Seems pretty reasonable, given the availability of JS transpilers to target older ECMAScript implementations (Babel, for instance)

I would be surprised if it disappears entirely. More likely some third-party hero (or perhaps Apple themselves) will spin off their GL implementation as a separate package - see XQuartz.

There is already OpenGL-on-Metal and OpenGL-on-DirectX middleware, so this may not actually be an issue.

They're doubling down on eGPU support, so there's that. But not as ideal as having something actually inside your machine.

I don't expect there will ever be an AAA game presence on macOS at this point, given so few of their machines offer dedicated GPUs anymore. And even in cases where they are available, for example Macbook Pros, the cost difference invol

I'm not sure I agree with the claim, but even if we take a full rewrite at face value, "every major graphics vendor" for desktop applications is NVIDIA and AMD/ATI. On mobiles, you're probably using Unity or similar

I might choose a stronger word - gross, for instance. I'm all for founder success, but that sounds a lot to me like the employee equity pool suffered.

Mentioning this in a couple different places, but consider Molten ( https://moltengl.com/ ) for this use case; it's a third party but very high quality reimplementation of Vulkan and OpenGL ES atop Metal. In other words,

Not enough info here to determine anything useful from the developer perspective. If I had to make an arbitrary assumption, I'd guess that this boils down to a UIKit implementation on the Mac.

All I can say is that I certainly hope the browser application runs in a separate, sandboxed process from the rest of the, er, "OS". Imagine a world where clientside browser JS can interact directly with the desktop environment...
