It goes both ways. Pure bodybuilders scoff at anything that doesn’t help sculpt, but I think there’s equal derision in the functional and strength training crowd to folks that only focus on pure bodybuilding. Personally I say do what makes

Out of ear detection is my biggest gripe. If I take them out quick and place them on a table because I don’t have the case handy, they try to reconnect when I’m receiving a call or using audio in any way without them. I have to look for the

Why focus on the argument of “Engineering is Mathematical” and ignore “Engineering Uses Scientific Knowledge to Solve Problems?” I’m not heavily invested in the outcome I just found it curious to only focus on mathematical usage as that’s e

It’s NPR so not surprising it has this bias of catering to well off people being inconvenienced. NPR is a neoliberal leaning media company that likes to dress up and play progressive for donation purposes.

It can be a little easier to ignore the ongoing pressures as well when you are more senior. You’ve seen it all before and know how it ends, not to mention being able to switch jobs more easily. I see a lot of junior engineers very stressed

I’d tell it to your boss but they’d probably put multiple meetings on your calendar to discuss then give you a bunch of “action items” to fix the issue yourself. Sound about right?

That is interesting as vinyl can have an audiophile component to it depending on the release but tape is exactly the opposite and often purposefully so. Then there is the ease of skipping around with vinyl. I get the appeal either way, just

Tape is fetishized like crazy right now so that’s not surprising. I see runs of 500 tapes on Bandcamp sold out immediately all the time for not-so-well-known artists.

Everything being duller is what I recall the last time I tried quitting. My theory is that it takes quite a while until you achieve a new baseline. I was much calmer which is a good tradeoff I think. I cut my caffeine down to one cup of cof

I was specifically thinking of heroin and friends which can have massive withdrawal symptoms and need plenty of external support to overcome. “all illicit” is too big an umbrella I agree. Change that to “some” instead “a lot”.

I know you were just exaggerating for effect, but obviously a lot of illicit drugs (and not so illicit depending on the person: alcohol) are a lot harder to quit for various reasons.

One of the best analog engineers I worked with was not an actual electrical engineer in title. He was a technician without a degree of any sort that worked on electronics projects at home for fun. He’d often be frustrated at the solution th

The problem is you can’t easily ween product folks and execs away from this lever; they may have pulled it so often that no one can remember a time when any push back on tech debt was possible. When it comes time to pay the debt, the origin

I’m assuming it’s referring to the movie by the same name that released in the early 80s about hacking and thwarting an AI that’s trying to start a nuclear war with Russia.

If what you postulate is true in that we can’t instill ethics and enact change due to greed and a focus on self-enrichment then it seems safe to assume that goes for capping limits on earnings as well.

My apologies. Obviously I don’t agree with what’s implied by “we have all this cool tech, how could people be unhappy?”, but I admittedly read some context into it and regardless I could have dialed it down a notch.

Everything is not amazing. We’re still social creatures and there is arguably a lot of stress and angst in the social world we find ourselves in. If “everything” is so amazing why are people working over 40/50/60+ hours a week to

In knowing the original track very well, I find this version fascinating but also frustrating to listen to. It really emphasizes for me the importance of well thought out note placement and timing and the connection throughout, especially
