Gray area. The vast majority of those shots were at a distance and not intimate with the person at all, and someone with a giant shoulder-mounted camera at least lets people know they're being filmed.

I was referring to the privacy side of things, since that's the context of this story. Also would apply to trespassing - hence you can be removed from a private business if the owner/manager wants you gone.

Taking pictures of people and posting them without their permission while they're at a private business is malicious in my opinion. And also illegal. There's a reason he had to hide it. Ethically it's no different to me than

That was my first thought. Inside an Apple store is not a public place. A sidewalk is a public place - you can take photos there and post them with no consequences. Inside a private business might as well be inside someone's private re

I guess at a high level, nearly everything humanity does is bad for the world. If that's your starting point then it makes sense?

Is it simple though? Copy & paste into a WYSIWYG editor is pretty error prone, and he's already talking about creating several shell scripts to keep things in sync. Seems a bit like re-inventing the wheel, no?

Most of the small indi-shop ipad POS devices do this already. If I swipe my card at one, I get an email automatically with my reciept. At some point in the last few years I must have put my email address in one and obviously it's share

Do you realize most people in NY have very limited storage space in their kitchens, no cars, and only buy what they can carry in 1-2 bags at a time because of that?

There's not even any indication that this is seasonal. It's spreading pretty well in Australia/India which are extremely hot right now. It will probably continue to spread in Europe/NA all throughout summer. Our state an

The community spread by this point has hit the entire US surely. They can't track every single confirmed person location-by-location because it's been far too long.

Are you including the portion the big companies pay (DD line on W-2?) $25-26k a year for a low deductible family plan seems about right. I have a HD plan through my company and it costs roughly that including my HSA contributions.

Depending on the size of your install, there are companies that are very good at converting over something like Oracle to Postgres for probably much less than you'd expect. With the price of oracle licensing, your break-even could be i

Photoshop/Lightroom are $100/yr combined (sometimes less if you can get a deal on the subscription card). At that price, you're still looking at significantly less than if you used to upgrade your old software every 5 years.

We're pretty much banking on technology that doesn't exist yet. Global-scale air scrubbers to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, etc. Why didn't we give a shit? Politics and money, same as anything.

They're really helpful in preventing our own outages. Although it's ironic how many of them boil down to having things so well automated that one mistyped command can take down an entire environment with extreme efficiency.

Thanks - good investigation. We're replatforming a legacy app from Oracle to Postgres in the near future and I'm sure we'll see stuff just like this. Definitely saving so I can refer back.

And to top it off, this entire business model is temporary. The end game for all of these companies (and Tesla/etc as well) is to have autonomous fleets. They have to bleed cash to snap up as much of the market as possible before that

It's about $7000 per core for enterprise - and if you do something like license a whole blade and put VMs on top of it, you could fairly easily run 10-20+ SQL VMs on one decent sized blade for < 150k. And anything pre-prod is free.

Apple's plan was to let you place it anywhere on the mat, not on the very small charging sweet-spot. Worth the huge premium it would've sold for? Probably not for a good deal of people, but it would've sold.
