pedrocr's comment above suggests a good solution: 1. Copy each file from the source volume to a single directory (e.g. /tmp) on the target volume, named for the source volume inode number. (edit: I suggest using a hierarchy of dir

I absolutely agree. I'm kind of selfishly pleased that my comment triggered you to share your war stories. But I do hope that by publicly sharing what manufacturers are like to work with it prods them to be more open to the community i

Something to be careful about - MediaTek has a reputation of being very hard to work with. As long as you're not trying to do anything beyond what Seeed Studio has already provided for, not a problem. But if you run into something wher

Google has traditionally been too attention-starved to stick with a product long enough to get the design/UX perfect. That's not to say Google has never created a truly beautiful product. Rather, the problem seems to be that Googl

Inevitably if you're generous with enough people, someone will try to take advantage of you. At what point do you stop being generous? It's nice to know that management at Google isn't blind to what's going on. I suppose

Of course not. Have you been homeless before? I've been homeless. Long story. If you've been sleeping in a parking lot and now security has caught on, you're homeless. Are you judging them because they happen to have some mon

It sounds like Google will be making some rapid changes to their security policy. Part of me feels bad for the guys who just got ratted out. Homelessness is a pretty disorienting thing. Part of me feels like this is just another way of sayi

Are you sure? Yes, Power8 has impressive single threaded benchmarks. But Intel has long dominated the single threaded performance market due to their fab edge and their economies of scale (lets them put more into R&D than IBM). Just won

You can also turn off line numbering _during_ the long "calculating line numbers" phase. Hit Ctrl-C and it says "line numbering off" or somesuch.

Google Fiber's terms of service have been clarified on the "running a server" point: now it's only off-limits to "operate servers for commercial purposes. However, personal, non-commercial use of servers that compli

Bluntly: hollywood saw piracy only as something to be killed. Now, too late, they're trying to emulate what has been in the works for 15 years. Right now, Comcast sees Netflix as something to be killed. It may be true now; it will cert

Thanks, I hadn't seen that before. End-to-end encryption is needed to increase the load on a spammer as much as possible. Even if the spammer tries to re-generate the message "at retrieval time" the receiver should request re

One important concept that seems to be missing from the discussion is Sender Stores. Email currently uses a Receiver Stores model. SMTP servers can relay messages, but in almost all cases the message is transmitted directly from the origina

You have a point when it comes to sports teams, but not factories. Factories will _not_ "still get built" if somewhere else is a more favorable economic deal. See manufacturing's move to Asia, from 1970-present.

I tracked down the r8169 problem to a problem when multiple descriptors are fetched in one IRQ. Kernel 3.12 includes a fix that only fetches one at a time. Have you tried a kernel with that fix in it?
