Good read. And a good reminder that you shouldn't (or can't) rely on documentation or a single request here and there when you decide to work with an API. And that the amount of support and 'release cycles' (frequency of updates and fixes)

So what if it is missing on the first call? How many calls until you get the complete picture? And which of those results is 'the truth' and reflects the current status?

It's almost a naive thing to say and I probably wouldn't ever do it myself either (and perfectly understand everyone's reasons not to) but somehow it's awkward that no one said "come on guys, join forces". No criticism towards the respectiv

Maybe it's just me but I think it'd be great to see where the company is based (the country) in the initial list. At least that'd be handy if you get more job offers. As I am in Europe, I'd prefer jobs where I can call someone up during Eur

More 'coolness' from Microsoft. While I never 'hated' them, this is really feeling odd. Hope they'll stay that way and can make Windows Phone attractive as well. Hell, if they keep on like this, maybe even Windows will be 'cool' one day. So

I started with Basic on a C-64 when I was a kid, mainly using the official manual if I remember right. When I went on to the Amiga, I didn't code anything for a few years and eventually wrote some extensions for bulletin board systems such

Sure. When you look at a 'proper magazine' there is a lot more work regarding to the layouts, additional info graphics and such. And I guess the iPad app versions of current magazines have got all these plus animated graphics, timelines, be

I think your best chance is to build a community (or 'network') that is focused on a certain niche or group of people though. And I guess the whole 'scaling' aspect can be quite 'scary' when you look at sites with millions of members such a

The problem is that people who should know what they're talking about have said things like 'the tablet will eventually replace other computer set-ups' a lot when tablets first came up. And I don't think it's a problem of 'adapting' if yo

I don't own a tablet, saw one in action for the first time a week ago and the owner and I basically came up with the same reasons why it's rather useless as the ones mentioned in the article. It's definitely nice to have for reading in bed

I haven't had a serious look around the PEAR libraries in ages, mainly because I don't want to have classes like their own 'Error' class around in my code at all. Regarding distribution I was hoping that .phar files would become the new sta

You can definitely use PHP without frameworks. What really sucks about PHP though is that most of the quality code lives inside frameworks. While it's rather easy to include parts of Zend Framework in your own code/other frameworks (it almo

PHP's docs suck? Seriously? I think the php.net docs outshines the available official documentation for all other languages I've worked with, especially because of the user comments on all the functions. Sure, some of them are outdated but

Yii is indeed very powerful, especially if you take advantage of the 'magic' and generators for form output and handling. I've only spent a few days with it though as that particular project fell through. Not sure if I'll ever go back to it
