Heh, these ads were so bad to the point of being ridiculous. I had fun reading them because they seemed so self aware and like a parody of ads.

That's like asking Apple to stop making minimalist aluminum laptops—the gaudy lights and green logo are part of the experience.

If you (or anyone reading) are attached to macOS in any way, getting a maxed out 2015 Macbook Pro might be a decent option. Refurbished might be a cheaper option as well. Sure, you're paying for "older" hardware, so I can und

The new Macbooks are so close to being great it's annoying. The specs are fine by me and I'm neutral on the Touch Bar, but the price and lack of ports just makes them not worth it. While I'm glad Apple is trying to move the i

Rents above Central Park and Columbia University are lower, but of course the neighborhoods are less "desirable". I've never been to a Bay Area, but NYC's subway system means you can live in a cheap area in Brooklyn or Q

My favorite HN trope is the blog post (bonus points for Medium post) about how a startup or company switched their poorly maintained, bloated X application to a well thought-out rewrite in Y and how Y solved all their issues and it's

As you probably know, there's a big "gap" between Computer Science and programming. While on HN we mostly talk about in terms of job interviews, it's more endemic than that. Most of my colleagues (and myself, many times)

Yes there are and they might just be the majority of the industry. Even in start ups not all jobs are that bad... maybe in California but here in NYC I've had a better experience when looking.

I've been experimenting with using my phone as little as possible. When I'm out, I put it in my backpack or pocket on silent. At the very most, I'll use it for music. I try really hard to not pull it out to check HN or others

Here's an easy way to do it: Want to make your website faster? Use a 3G connection when developing or testing. Chrome Dev Tools make this easy and you can also adjust the latency as needed.

Very good view to an often ignored part of web development. And as usual, the Medium posts loads way slower than the actual website.
