This is what DigitalOcean did to create their block/object storage. If you're interested in doing this type of thing in a career capacity the storage team is hiring a lot of people right now. Feel free to reach out to me as I'

I made a web game that has been played by around a hundred thousand people so far and net a few hundred dollars. Now that the idea is validated I'm releasing a huge update soon that will tie in with a Patreon page and I expect it to ea

I was using my Raspberry Pi 4 as a WiFi bridge for a "temporary" networking solution after I moved house. I ended up running it that way for over a year and it worked pretty flawlessly. Only problem was that it didn't get any

You know what else I’ve seen on LinkedIn? Lots of people being openly racist in the comments of a post about a non-white experience. Sure that post was trying to farm interaction but I can’t imagine associating your racism with your profess

Async Ruby is rapidly maturing. I haven’t run Falcon in production yet but it’s not difficult at this point to setup Rails to take advantage of async IO.

JIT doesn’t seem like the big optimization that Rails needs. Rails has low throughput because you have to run multiple full-fat instances of rails to handle requests in parallel or multiple beefy threads to handle requests concurrently. Eit

I really do wonder about the long term sustainability of package systems. The oldest business software, think COBOL, still works because it can still run the way it did when it was created. Will I be able to say the same about my software i

Yep, I've seen the same thing here in southern California. Traditional businesses hiring devs tend to pay the local rate for "engineers". Software businesses hiring devs tend to the pay the local rate for "software devel

This is really timely article for me. I just chose to use Lua in a brand new project ( https://github.com/Hyperspace-Logistics/heart ) and lot of the criticism so far has been “why Lua?” Personally I think it’s very capa

Yeah, I’ve bought a couple of other non-raspberry SBCs and the quality just isn’t anywhere close to the RPi stuff. I had one board that would randomly fail to boot and the devs acknowledged it as a known issue but never patched it afaik.

Seems like a weird conclusion to draw. If programming languages are arbitrary why didn’t we stop abstracting or creating new ones? The language is often a reflection of the problem it was intended to solve. Would you really argue that Brain

Is the front page of HN really anti-sensationalist? If so why do articles like “Elon Musk moves to Texas” get to stay? They add very little to the discourse and primarily serve as flamewar topics which are actually against the rules of HN w
