I listened to an interesting podcast (Under the Influence?) a while back about first movers that lost out to their copycats. One famous example? Hydrox cookies. They were the original. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrox

Just to clarify, do you mean that people won't move to Minneapolis, won't move from Minneapolis, or people all over the country generally don't want to relocate?

The problem sometimes just gets pushed back in time by funneling unprepared high school kids into AP Calc classes. They don't have the algebra for it. I've seen this first-hand and while there are sometimes one or two kids for whom it is a

I agree with your analysis. However I've only ever sat in on a few programmer interviews, and was lucky enough to get only the few that had already made it through several screens and were quite sharp. However, if so many people can't do Fi

I may be missing something, but what does it mean to "hold something in a session" if not to either (1) store it in a cookie (encrypted or not) or (2) store it server-side with a token stored in a cookie pointing to it?

If you believe the distribution of cognitive abilities to be orthogonal to race/gender, why set your a priori at 0.5? I may be misunderstanding (my stats knowledge is low) but it seems you see no reason a particular statement should be true

If they wanted, could Pandora avoid interacting with record companies completely? That is, only buy music direct from artists? And if they did this, could they then just negotiate whatever deals they wanted with the artists? I am not implyi

These bikes have integrated locks so that between endpoints you can attach it to any solid post and it will be safe. If you wanted to carry around your own chain-lock you could accomplish the same thing with any bike-sharing bike.

Test your theory. Teaching methods can be a crap shoot. What seems like it should work sometimes doesn't, and vice-versa. And it varies across groups. Your idea sounds like a good one.

I realize not everyone has this luxury, but the market is still very hot in Boston/Cambridge around me. And I'm sure others can second that for their cities. I have at least fifty restaurants within a fifteen minute walk. I'm not trying to

It's true. Around Boston, the bike lanes pretty much exactly designate the zone in which you are at risk for dooring.

Wouldn't this technically be gliding rather than flying? I had thought that by definition it was only flight if you could produce enough thrust to maintain velocity and altitude in still air.

In my experience teaching science and math, I've found this sort of analogy to be of limitted utility. It is often possible to get a whole class on board with the story and understanding the "rules" and able to come to the right conclusions

I know a lot of people argue against mixing markup and styling. As one of those, and since you seem well informed, how do you feel about the various css frameworks like bootstrap where the class names are essentially style descriptions?

It's going to happen. Even with full care and diligence there will still be some products shipped with security flaws. It is not ethical to give the company no heads up, not even anonymously.

I'm sure most profitable companies were formed to solve a problem. But a few absurdly successful ones don't really fit that description. You can shoehorn them in, but it seems like a stretch to explain the "pain point" facebook solved. Inst
