I have a feeling that for the coming year or so, these visualizations will be overused in much the same way animated web site intros were in the late 90's. Because right now they are still new enough that the casual viewer will inevitably b

A lot of physics quackery comes from engineers.* Their knowledge of advance physics is generally nowhere near that of a physics PhD, but their title lends them credibility to many people. * I have not found the reverse to be true.

I am convinced that when computing comes in force to the third world, it will not be through donated/subsidized laptops, but through phones. I bet that in 100 years, the famous hacker that rose to great power from the slums will have cut hi

Which relates to a question I had about this bike when I first read about it. The article admits it has a shorter lifespan than a traditional bike, but why? How do you know it's no good any longer? Does it just get hard to pedal after n day

I second on the "moody". I've never seen it written about, but, even apart from alertness, caffeine makes me extremely emotional. Bouncing happy to sad in ways I otherwise wouldn't. And at high levels, I blaze with inspiration... with ideas

Yes. The first step to success is repeated failure. It's okay. If you can accept that it will happen then you can get it out of the way and be ready to succeed.

I'm with you for the first part, but "50% less" seems to me both clear and strictly equivalent with "half as much". What am I missing?

The non-semantic aspect of it is baffling to me. As I was learning web development, I read all over the place how class names should be descriptive. Otherwise you end with something a lot like the inline styling that CSS first helped us ge

Yes, but it is a problem that is true to different extents depending on the word. The origins of Ries's philosophy may justify his use of "lean", but if that was not the case, I think it would have been better and possible to find a word

I take a issue with a lot of the points in this article but agree pretty strongly that Ries should have picked a different name than "lean". If you continually have to clarify that you don't mean something else (cheap in this case) then you

I'm sort of with you, though I've read quite a bit at this point and interacted with a number of APIs of varying degrees of "RESTfulness". The biggest question I wish the various tutorials would address is: why is REST a good idea? Why is t

I looked up "half duplex" out of interest, and it fit closely enough what I imagined it meant. But the first article I found says that cell phones are full duplex. However I've found they have a threshhold volume under which they don't send

You make me realize that with people who can write well, I'll lean towards preferring email communication, with those who can't, I'll prefer phone. And by "write well" I don't mean having perfect grammar or spelling. I mean having clarity o

I hypothesize that the point of all these obtrusive measures in the name of security is not really to prevent terrorism. Instead it is so that when the inevitable happens, wherever and however, the masses will not riot. They will instead

The desire to want to just "make it" seems deeply wrong-headed to me. Granted, I don't own a company so this may be one of the many times that I am wrong, but it seems like a pretty important characteristic would be having a particular prod

If it was truly great stuff, I would be okay with that. As many others have pointed out, spending inordinate amounts of time researching every possession might not make for a great life. But why not let someone else do it for us? If one per

I am glad it is possible for you, and truly impressed. But for some people it would be a matter or organizing 28 hours into a 24 hour day, and still not sleeping. When I did my tiny startup years ago it was every waking second of every day.

At some level I think you have to do both. Either by explicit drilling or frequent use, you end up memorizing a lot of formulas anyway. And for the longer ones, it takes too long to derive from first principles every time, so whichever way
