I got around 10% of our Xen instances scheduled for reboot on Jan 4th, mostly long running instances. It's the first time I've seen that many instances scheduled at once.

..and guess how this system is activated? Using traditional FM (some form of RDS, I think). Which is why not all the transmitters have been turned off yet.

The original DAB codec had more error protection for the more important parts of the audio data (unequal error protection), so while not the same it would give a more gradual reduction in quality instead of a sharp drop-off. DAB+ doesn'

I agree it's a bug, but this is far, far more difficult to test against with a chaos monkey than one might think. With a whole datacenter down, not to speak of multiple availability zones, problems and dependencies will crop up that ar

My iPhone 6 is from 2014, next year it'll still run a supported OS that seems to be about as snappy as the previous version. Assuming a yearly iOS release that's 4 years next year (assuming they stop supporting iPhone 6 in iOS 12)

That you don't have a revolution like the first iPhone doesn't mean it's ever "done". When you sum up all the boring, evolutionary changes over the last 10 years you end up with something pretty outstanding. Especia

Sure it's our job to do that. The job still gets easier when you have the law backing you up. An excellent example is how many companies are in panic mode right now to get GDPR compliant before next year. There's a lot of security

I think it's right to speak publically when called for (for instance with whisteblowers). Without people doing that, we'd actually have much less transparency in our democracy. Companies where employees actually keep secrets do so

Does the fact that it's not their core contradict what I'm saying? Youtube is still hugely popular for people to share their own recordings and remixes. I know that it took a long time for YouTube to figure out the licensing stuff

I didn't downvote, but: - Presumably the people inside the company has tried for years to pressure for a change. When that doesn't work, and especially once a big layoff happens, it's understandable that employees vent their

It's also wishful thinking. If IBM had controlled that, there wouldn't have been a big enough ecosystem around the PC platform for it to become the winner. IBM also tried to grab this back with PS/2 and OS/2 which also f

I don't think it's reasonable to compare the risk profile of a hydrogen airship to an airliner that uses kerosene in metal tanks (that are now filled with nitrogen as they empty, just in case) and has fire suppression systems in t
