If you are planning on majoring in math (or related), why not get a head start and get some textbooks corresponding to actual courses you would like to take at the college/university you are planning/hoping to attend?

Publishers don't care about citations nearly as much as squeezing every last penny from taxpayers that they can (via publically funded research / libraries).

Not in JP Morgan, apparently. As mentioned in the post, the code was barely touched since 2006. The rewrite was needed presumably so that the code could be better maintained (or hot patched, if the emergency arrived). And there was, presuma

My two cents: Ubuntu Mono is the only monospaced font I know that looks good for prose/code. I like to mix code and prose (in web and in Emacs org mode), and I prefer using the same font.

While those numbers are good, TimescaleDB does not even attempt to compete with the performance of purpose-built time series DBs (e.g. shakti, clickhouse). Time series DBs (and OLAP dbs in general) have very different trade-offs/needs

Minimizing allocations (and deallocations) and optimizing memory layout are just things you have to do for HPC in any language. Though I think that it is easier in Julia than in C/Fortran.

The real performance win seems to be reducing the number of allocations (2 vs. 30 thousand).

In grad school, I used "Stochastic Calculus for Mathematical Finance II" by Shreve. Its pretty rigorous/technical (don't bother with volume I, imo). I don't know of any decent books on estimating parameters for SDE&

The main difference is the introduction of qsql (SQL-ish statements can be treated as expressions) and some utility functions that are defined in K. QSQL is mostly for business analyst folks, and is just syntax sugar over the K-native `?` a

This is sort of like how I develop using Jupyter notebooks. Write code in the notebook until I get a function / component correct. Copy it into a module. Restart the kernel and import the module. Rinse and repeat.
