Great article, I am interested in random number generation in general. The discussion on why 3D blue noise is difficult to generate is interesting. By the way, using irrational rotations to generate a random sequence is a cool application

This is a reason why we must fight against too much of our data being put online, by accident or by design. My parents complain of getting these calls where the callers give details which are often quite accurate, and then fish for really c

Even in pure mathematics, a good rule is to give examples (if simple) right after the definitions. Examples always help. Here's a post by the Fields medallist Tim Gowers: https://gowers.wordpress.com/2007/10/1

I am not sure that migrating will help. If I read the bill right, it implies that every person providing any service used (or "likely to be used") in Australia is under legal obligation to insert these backdoors. I don't thin

I think many surveillance measures in NZ are too strict. In 2015, I remember being shocked at the fact that public buses in Wellington have audio recordings on, in addition to video surveillance. I get the feeling that NZ is one of the firs

You could look at how India fixed such a loophole in its constitution based on the common law: This is of interest to any person interested in law, or mathematical logic. The rub of the whole thing is: define something called "the basi

The author just sounds ignorant, and seems to have jumped up at Cixin Liu. Western fans have always welcomed authors like the Strugarsky brothers and Stanislaw Lem, and Japanese scifi. He also seems to be forgetting pioneers like Ursula Le

It need not be unlikely. Once you become an acknowledged expert, other people may collaborate with you in parallel. You contribute some of the main ideas, and your co-authors will flesh out and write the paper. I do not see anything wrong i

So, mix-and-match existing papers? As a referee, I often do check whether the authors have published similar content before. The only way to beat this simple vetting is if someone pushes the same paper to multiple venues, and they all get a
