Whole Foods started charging $9.99 for orders a year or so ago. I still sometimes order from them but try and avoid it. I sometimes use Fresh, sometimes do WF in the store (pickup or just going to the store), and also shop locally more.

I work with a manager who has the inverse problem. He has multiple (2-3 out of 10) low performers but had pressure to only mark one as a low performer. Now that one person has left the team he’s able to mark a new person as the low performe

Agreed. Except this year it’s probably more like a 7% cut (inflation is still pretty high).

Hyperbole. From a recent WaPo article: Apple chief executive Tim Cook has voluntarily taken a 40 percent pay cut for 2023, an unusual move that comes “in response to shareholder feedback,” according to the company's annual proxy statem

In a high inflation environment, not giving raises is essentially a pay cut but doesn’t have the same negative psychological effect. And RSU’s are a huge portion of comp in tech companies, it’s easy to cut RSU’s. Setting aside the very top

Prices for Mac products are about the same; the difference is taxes (how they are treated and the rates). 1. Taxes in the US are added on top, not inclusive. 2. Taxes in Europe are generally higher than in the US. Looking at the MacBook Air

Is Apple the last major tech company standing without layoffs? Yes, at least for FANG/MAGA. I wonder if they will avoid them or just be the last one to cut. Related, with employee growth charts: https://www.cnbc.com/amp

I graduated 20+ years ago from a top CS school, and this was the norm then as well, whether you wanted a job at a big company like Microsoft, a consulting company, or a hot tech startup. The good news for me was that even though I had terri

Other companies stopped backfilling a while ago but doesn't mean they plan on laying people off (and you can look at 2008-2010 for reference to see that some companies didn't backfill but didn't have layoffs). Not over-growin

Best Western, etc. have variety in quality but still pretty consistent overall with a floor on quality. If your shower is leaking, you’ll be able to get a new room. Maybe the hot tub is broken but that’s pretty rare and will probably get fi
