I think the umbrella guy was a genius ... part of the problem with repairing "your favorite umbrella" is a lack of parts. Umbrellas tend to be fragile and his operation really only worked because of volume. He seemed to be repai

I usually try to find a recipe to cook that uses the rendered bacon grease before it gets too old. We don't generally fry our food so I'd love to know how you store and filter the cooking fat between uses.

The maxim "reduce, reuse, recycle" is well-known in our house-hold but, as the article points out, the reduce part is hard. Many don't realize how little actually ends up recycled but a recent trip to Cuba was informative. C

An NPN transistor, when saturated, is like a SPST relay where one side of the coil and one of the contacts are internally connected to ground. You don't however end up with isolation between the input signal and output signal in eithe

I've got a beautiful 2001 Mercedes-Benz ... it drives well, avoids all the trendy stuff but still has too many electronic components (most recently I had to replace the computer board that decides whether you should be able to shift).

I had (and used) an Amstrad PenPad for a number of years (until I replaced it with a Sharp Zaurus 5000D which ran Qt on Linux). The down-side to both was a lack of connectivity!

Interesting ... they heavily recruited my daughter who's a senior in high school and looking to go to business school in supply-chain-management. She applied to GW but it was her last choice and she was accepted everywhere she applied

Hey GW ... I hear that "Don't Be Evil" is available again and seems like it would be suitably generic. On a more serious note, I'm on staff at a relatively major university having spent the previous 30 years in private i

Monotony? ... for some reason I never had a problem playing Risk in college even though it would last all night (or more). Playing a six-hour game of Monopoly was only fun for the first couple of hours.
