Go is... fundamentally different than most runtimes? Probably. Better? Maybe. Better than the comparable ones? I think it's losing that war. You don't even need a special runtime, it can help, but I think the amount it helps is overstated i

Absolutely. Even if you're a blub grandmaster, you really ought to know a dozen other things fairly well.

I won't wear this kind of branding, but if it was a HN-grey shirt with HN-orange collar/cuffs/trim, that I would wear.

Yeah, a more honest comparison between working from the office and taking dangerous drugs is to actually make that comparison: "come into work or stay home and take Adderall." Bonus: you will find out which of your staff would rather stay

I was going to ask about the message details but I figured it would make me sound like an asshole, so thanks for that. I've looked for this kind of message specifically and not found it in the spec. Does it specify a note number or do somet

MIDI provides polyphonic aftertouch as a standard (i.e. not NRPN or SysEx) message type. I've read the standard and this sounds very wrong to me. If it is in the spec then I know a few synths that are broken.

Which is utterly useless in a 1:1 channel:instrument configuration. Most of my MIDI hardware expects to listen on a single channel, as does most I've come across. My plugin/VST host doesn't know about this either, so I would need to assign

Sure, but when you depend on synthesis compatibility is a big deal. History seems to support that, with respect to other novel electronic instruments. I was just now responding to a claim that this will work with existing synthesizers. Whil

That doesn't add up, unless you're counting everyone with a trial version of fruity loops on their system as having a studio. But even then, I think it's a stretch (everyone I know who does any kind of music production has at least $1k in n

It has already been changed. Pianos don't have mod wheels, for example. I could list a hundred or so other changes but the good ones are mostly beneath the surface. But these things aren't really pianos, they just use a piano keyboard. I ag

The reason their product hasn't been dominating the market for the past 20 years is not because they were the first to dream it up (they weren't, though there appear to be some incremental improvements here), it's because you can't get it

You're right. I was disappointed when I found out what it was, but I didn't come to complain about it. I just thought people might like to see something a little more in line with the title.

The question is highly controversial and (separately) not worth discussing. It's not your fault, it was more or less supplied that way by context. It works well as a rhetorical question, but some jackass is going to click "reply." Oh, wait.

I mostly agree, every time I see one of these I find trying to read it as a transformed version of the vanilla callback version is the easiest way to understand it. After all, when callbacks do get out of hand, approximating one of these is

Regarding MonoDevelop, it never worked for me on Linux, it just flaked out completely. If you don't need .Net, OCaml is practically the same language and has lots of vim/emacs support.

I got sick of appending to PATH manually, so I dropped this in my .bashrc: pushpath () { export PATH=$PATH:${1}; } Since it is written in shell it has direct access to update the environment variable.

After reading this I am wondering if there have been any measurements taken of the time 'wasted' in the kernel. You make it sound like there's a lot less wasted than is claimed by the author. I'm not convinced that the article has it exactl
