FWIW I have seen a lot more Debian support from hosting companies than Ubuntu support. Either way it's overwhelmingly RedHat. Honestly though, problems surrounding "newer packages" is the reason #1 I avoid Ubuntu. I think the problem I had

I'll believe it when I see it working. Most likely they will still find a way to make it next to useless, forcing people to keep writing/targeting JavaScript. FYI, you're talking to them right now. Patrick Walton is a Moz employee.

I don't find testing as a solution very convincing, it's just the same problem all over again: more code which may ran yet fail to live up to expectations. It's a tool, but static checks are better for things that can be statically checked.

You can write equivalent programs in C++, but if you learned Rust well I am not sure you'd want to. The parallelism shown is still fairly coarse grained and amenable to traditional techniques. [...] If the redesign was using C/C++, they'd

This story lacks critical thinking. The price couldn't be anything other than volatile right now for the simple reason that it is bigger than a breadbox, but smaller than a house: It has two basic attractors, one is $0—extinction. If you ta

I think Julia is a pretty good bet. Its target audience seems to love it. I've got too much on my plate right now to put the hours in on it. Sure, you have to manage risks, but why not put insignificant but necessary projects on it? Just p

I don't think I've actually tried that, except on my netbook (conclusion: don't try to build Rust on a netbook.) I have made a habit of typing supplying `-j 8` to make. Note: if it hasn't been fixed yet, you'll need to fetch the bootstrap c

Ouch. Did you run the build with multiple jobs? (Parallel builds have been a bit messed up because of fetching the bootstrap, but you can coax it into working.)

Current asm.js is just for C/C++. I think that's a dangerous way of putting it. Asm.js is just a spec and can (and ought to) be emitted by things other than Emscripten.

In fact, the Go team explicitly tells you not to do that: "do not communicate by sharing memory; instead, share memory by communicating." Sadly, that doesn't mean what you think it means. It really means: don't organize your IPC around sh

It is a good point, when the load time is measured in seconds it doesn't leave one with the impression that it's fast. It would be better to see it serving with a more realistic configuration.

Thanks for pointing it out, I gave me an excuse to look at the numbers: I took 4.6 seconds when I loaded it. In the breakdown ~4.3s of that was nginx dicking around (probably spending much of its time telling people it can't spawn an instan

That's an acceptable approximation for now at least, although Go doesn't know which threads will hold up the runtime. I'm not sure what's left to clarify on your part. I think you misunderstand what working with Coro is like. In practice th
