"Always reward those that perform and get rid of those that don’t." I have a feeling that's very under-rated advice. I've rarely seen startup advocates say that you should fire the people that aren't cutting it. Maybe most people consider i

That's actually the exact opposite of what I usually do. If the article looks interesting, I read it. If I can see why the article could be interesting but I'm not personally interested I ignore it. If, however, the article looks pointles

I'm not sure if this is intentional or a browser bug (I'm using Chrome so anything Webkit/Safari should be the same) but at the bottom of the menu panel on the left I see a resize button (bottom right of left panel). If I resize the panel,

I see a few sites like threadless that, to me at least, don't even come close to fitting any sort of definition of "app". Is this meant to be an open index of web apps/services? While useful now, like minalecs pointed out, I see it quickly

In Quebec at least, these are official titles. Software Engineer, unlike in the US and most of the rest of the world, is a protected title. You can't go around calling yourself a Software Engineer unless you have a degree in Software Engine

Yeah, this is getting just plain ridiculous. It's gotten to the point where I wonder if the defense didn't actually want to lose the case just to point out how thoroughly the justice system has been infiltrated by big media interests.

Personally, it doesn't bother me (I'm 25) when people do this to me (though I don't usually do it myself mostly due to not owning an iphone or ipod or any portable gadgets other than a basic cell phone) but I'm really interested in why it b

Does anyone know of an appliance where you can just plug it into the wall and plug anything into the appliance? Basically it would act as a pass-through that could keep track of how much the thing plugged into the wall is costing. It would

People seem to be confused about what IBM's System S actually is. For a more technical look at their new offering I suggest these two posts: http://www.dbms2.com/2009/05/13/ibm-system-s-infosphere-stre... http://www.dbms2.com/2009/05/18/

Tokyo Cabinet (TC) is what I was going to recommend as well. It's crazy fast and quite reliable. It also does zlib compression so your dataset will be smaller than with most other key/value stores. Be careful picking an open source key/valu

Percona recently released benchmark results comparing innodb to TokuDB: http://www.mysqlperformanceblog.com/2009/04/28/detailed-revi... The take-away is that TokuDB has a lot of promise but on CPU bound workloads a lot of work still needs
