The early VCs make money as long as they can sell their stake to a different set of VCs in a later round. The later VCs make money if the thing IPOs before the universe proves it can never be profitable (as with Uber).

This is a long-standing and oft-repeated myth. Milk is in the back of the store because that's where it makes sense to have a refrigerated wall. Milk is increasingly available in smaller quantities in compact refrigeration units at the

The first company I worked for, and also the first company I saw A/B tests at, once ran an A/A test because someone was a bit skeptical about some of the test results that had been claimed. Predictably, whatever metric we were wat

The way A/B testing is practiced by actual people in the actual world, it is fundamentally broken. No one EVER tests for mean-reversion over time. 17 years I've seen companies do A/B tests. I doubt I've seen a single con

Why? Signal is a very simple application. It used to be very common for individual developers, or small teams, to publish native programs. WinZip, Winamp, 7Zip, TreeSize, Tag & Rename, Beyond Compare, Nero, PuTTY, all just off the top o

Ugh. The iDrive system in my 2013 F30 is juuuuuuust right. Easy to use, thoughtfully laid out, good mix of on-screen menus and tactile buttons / the jog wheel. The newer cars have touchscreens, which is a big step back, but thankfully

This is a very confused question. The data store you keep your queued items in is completely orthogonal to what a message queue actually is. A simple way to use an RDBMS as a message queue, that has been in use since before most HN readers
