   Although we try to avoid deadlocks as much as possible at Yelp, retrying when a deadlock occurs is usually a viable strategy to take. Some deadlocks seem to be somewhat unavoidable.

   It would be really awesome if google were to open source mapreduce, chubby, and bigtable -- these are tools that would allow innovation at greater scale, and it's not clear that any open tools are of the same quality.
