I got banned from Google Ads at age 16 because Google was convinced I was doing this. I'm 35 now. Never figured out how that happened, but it doesn't matter because I wouldn't choose Google's ads anymore, anyway.

This sort of trick will fix a lot of annoying little issues on most PCs, like if you have a USB device that you know works but your PC won't recognize it. Shutdown, unplug the power, then hit the power button on your PC a few times. Ev

My entire experience with UML was as a high school aged kid who'd just found out about it, but despite my best internet searching, could find absolutely no resources on learning or using it. So I just gave it up and this post is pretty

It sounds like they want to compete with VRChat since VRChat can do almost all of their stated goals with the added bonus of users being able to create and upload content, and despite the name, you don't need VR hardware to play it.

Never built one myself but I did grow up in the era where creating a Beowulf cluster out of something unusual was common internet humor for geeks. The last one I remember seeing was using an early model of Raspberry Pis, and most the commen

I made the jump from JS to CLJS and loved it, but in the end I like types and ML more than I like Lisp. Do both, but do Lisp first.

The actions the code takes on error is up to you. What isn't up to you is whether or not you handle the error. Network calls give you a Result, and you have to deal with both the Ok and the Err branch or the code won't compile.

Maybe some younger developers, but I'd imagine a lot of us grew to dislike MySQL years before Oracle bought it (in 2010). I'd switched to Postgres already by then.

I brought Sub7 into my high school in the early 2000s and just used it to mess with some friends. Harmless stuff like opening Notepad and typing into it. Well someone else discovered it and did a bunch of damage to a bunch of machines and g

Nearly every compile-to-JS language is a better choice than JS unless you really, truly need something legacy. The exception might be Coffeescript, but even that's not bad , it just add a whole lot. Even then I'm certain you ca

I was very productive in Clojure for some number of years and never once, not a single time, found benefit in REPL-driven development. I've used it here and there just to test little snippets, but never actually used it for real. Frequ

I feel quite the opposite now, a table feels like so much typing compared to a quick flexbox layout. Even when I legitimately need a table, I dread it.

If I felt like I wouldn't get blank stares a lot of the time, I would absolutely love to use this. I'm at a completely different level of the industry than most of HN, so I don't get the benefit of (sometimes) interviewing wi

I have my doubts that this is the first, this one just got noticed and is easy to politicize. At least one of my submissions has had its definition totally replaced, it's not much of a stretch to assume there have been some low profile

Love my HP50G. I rode a motorcycle during college, so consequentially I always had my HP50G on me wherever I went since I never took it out of my backpack.

I generally find spelling to be a much better tell than grammar. Most programmers I've known had (mostly) fine grammar but horrendous spelling. I frequently end up being the proofreader. Which is fine with me.
