I knew someone who had to conduct dozens of these "sacrifices" as part of her neuroscience PhD. She used a mouse-sized guillotine like this one: https://www.wpiinc.com/var-2645-rodent-guillotine.html

Not OP, but some (most? many?) machines receiving the update crashed with a BSOD. So that's how they could enter the boot loop.

I've started taking longer train trips when I need to get from NYC to anywhere in the Northeast corridor (between DC and Boston), instead of driving or flying. Often the price is the same or higher than flying, and the time is longer (

I'm not a fan of this feature. First, I don't think it's going to help all that much for the reasons other people have stated (it's easy to obtain a new IP, and using ssh key-only remote login nullifies most attacks anyw

That's an incredible photo. Something about it makes me think of an old-timey silent film about alien invasions.

I see it more as a survival trait for a population, not an individual. An individual does not need to procreate for a population to benefit from any trait they may have. In that sense, the trait may be a disadvantage for the individual, but

I just owned a cheap bicycle that I wasn't afraid to lose. There's loads of used steel-frame bikes from the 90s that ride just fine after a tune-up and cost less than $100. The U-lock and the slightly beat-up exterior seemed to pu

I'd love to see more sidewalk and less road here. The pandemic-induced trend of sidewalk/street seating at cafes and restaurants and closed streets (like St. Marks in manhattan and Vanderbilt in Brooklyn) really make the spring&#x

I think it is more accessible than the mountains of literary analysis would lead you to believe. It's a fun read even if you didn't dig into every single line, it's short, and it's funny. But popular fiction it ain'

I am not really well read on Russian literature (work in progress), but my impression is that they are all over the place in terms of complexity and accessibility. There's rube-goldberg contraptions of genius like Pale Fire, and at the

I can attest to its effectiveness against H. pylori. I've suffered from canker sores most of my life. The two things that have helped were avoiding sodium lauryl sulfate in toothpaste, and chewing mastic gum at least once a week.

Anecdotally I have found the amount of books I read has skyrocketed since I got a library card. I used to hesitate at book stores trying to decide if a book was worth $30 and the space on my (already full) book shelf. Now, if I hear about a
