I solved it by buying a UK layout keyboard for home. At work I confuse the hell out of people by using a German keyboard but UK layout.

Incidentally all of the techniques listed there are used for suspensions in LIGO, Virgo and other ground-based gravitational wave detectors, where the problem is the same: stop seismic noise from moving the object under test.

I don't tend to dig down into equations and just use the simple heuristics I've built up from examining other designs. I guess with a bit of practice I could do it though. Thanks for the info!
