Well, with the SDK, you can build your own gimbal and control the camera's shutter... which I guess is the point of releasing the SDK in the first place - let users make neat stuff that Pentax won't/can't make itself. I&

This is anecdotal - on my 2008 Macbook (not Pro) and on my 2011 MBP, Windows 8+ always felt snappier than the latest version of OSX (ymmv based on what you do). I have seen other people on HN report similar.

>> Macbook Pro sales down to 2010 levels. Worrying for the HN crowd, no? If you've got a Core i series CPU, your laptop will age fairly well and potentially delay your upgrade. Maybe that's the cause of the decline?

But modern pickup trucks are also very popular for personal use. You can get them with really nice interiors these days (compared to when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s). They're damned luxurious in comparison to the old days.

How about it not breaking in the first place? When people talk about their Macs with pride, the first thing you'll probably hear is "Apple has the best build quality". A 2017 13" Macbook Pro should not require 5 service

My AppleCare had lapsed the time it died. The logic board was already replaced once while it was under Applecare, and maybe 3 months after the first logic board replacement, the GPU flickering issues started recurring. At that point, I didn

I had one of those problematic 2011 MBPs, and reballing/reflowing/baking was only a band-aid. For many users, the issue was known to recur after implementing the fix. Even for the eventual repair order, Apple stuck in the same log

While Apple's not blameless in the matter, this seems to be more of an Intel issue no? It appears the i9 isn't a good fit for thin and light laptops (Apple's also not the only one using the i9 in this form factor). Of course,

The correct answer is "it depends on which paste you use". If you're using a "liquid metal" compound, you probably want to be very careful, as it is conductive.[1] [1] https://www.ekwb.com/blog/

Dave Lee's tests usually come from a gamer and media creator's perspective. In most, if not all, of his reviews he makes a point to check thermals and throttling related to heat, because that matters to the gaming segment of his a

There are multiple factors, but slimness is probably not the only culprit. I don't think Apple (or most other PC vendors) use the best thermal compound on their CPUs. When my early 2011 MBP was having heat problems, I replaced the comp

Depends on the workload and amount of time spent processing the workloads. Dave Lee ran some tests that took a half hour to complete with the CPU pretty much maxed out. I would imagine the CPU was running hot for most of that time.

Hard to say. Some people got temporary fixes by baking their logic boards and/or reballing the GPU. IIRC the "recall" involved replacing the logic boards with refurbs having the same GPUs. The CPUs on the boards seemed to be

The heat off that MBP reminds me of how hot my early 2011 15" MBP got. I suspect that the heat was the culprit for the GPU failures that gave the 2011 model its notoriety.
