The heat off that MBP reminds me of how hot my early 2011 15" MBP got. I suspect that the heat was the culprit for the GPU failures that gave the 2011 model its notoriety.
- olliej 8y agoI thought that was gpu manufacturer issue? I recall Nvidia specifically had a lot of issues across many oems.
- slantyyz 8y agoHard to say. Some people got temporary fixes by baking their logic boards and/or reballing the GPU. IIRC the "recall" involved replacing the logic boards with refurbs having the same GPUs. The CPUs on the boards seemed to be throttled after the replacement.
- walru 8y agoIt was likely a bit of both, but there's one thing that can't be denied, apple products are built for form over function.
- rsynnott 8y agoApple was by no means the only manufacturer to have trouble with those Nvidia parts; it was an industry-wide problem.
- neya 8y agoYou are right, NVIDIA replaced the die for many OEMs, at the time my Vaio was affected and out of warranty, but Sony was nice enough to replace the motherboard for me and the laptop still works..roughly 10 years later..
