I meant, the particular way the Navy does it might be too expensive for some reason. Do you know anything about that?

Databases often use table statistics to try to do better at generating query plans. I wonder if they use them to make indexes faster as well?

Their safety record is good, but can they generate power at a cost that's commercially competitive? If it's too expensive then the plan doesn't work.

The thing about file formats is that there are so many to choose from. From a distance they may seem much the same, but ATproto has its own conventions for database records and links between them that makes it easier to replicate data witho

It’s an extraordinary situation and I’m wondering what sort of analogies make sense. If there were tobacco companies warning everyone who would listen in the 1950’s that cigarettes cause cancer, it would be, like, points for honesty, but wh

I imagine that in the future we will have less trust in strangers on the Internet and whether they're human or AI will be a side issue. Knowing that a correspondent is human will be neither necessary nor sufficient.

Uh, some people like videos but I'd really rather have a web page with all the steps laid out and still photos. (And maybe links to the video, too?) A custom board sounds great, too.

This looks very cool. Since a Raspberry Pi Pico doesn’t have built-in audio output ports, I think the main thing blocking ordinary people from using it is figuring out the hardware? A link to a tutorial for how to add audio output would be

The underlying reason is that employees don't always know what they're talking about, but their nonsense could be useful to the other side in a court case. The bigger the company, the more speculation there is about stuff people d

I wouldn't use facial recognition. The idea would be that you take the group photo and share it with everyone using the phone-bumping ritual, and it shows up in your profiles. But that only works if the social network has enough privac

It seems overly pessimistic about education. Book learning isn't everything, but a physics textbook could be seen as the compression of centuries of experience.

Perhaps "remember when you met with your friends?" But taking a photo (possibly a group photo) is a more natural way to do that. Maybe it should integrate with photo-taking somehow? It would be annoying if you met up, forgot to do

I'm imagining one of those tiny libraries with a garden gnome in it with a cheap phone inside, connected to a garden gnome Friendster account. And then it gets stolen and has a trip around the world, meeting new people.

How do you know it’s “violent?” It might not technically be allowed but that doesn’t mean they’re doing it unsafely. There’s quite a difference between violent and illegal and they shouldn’t be confused.

There’s more to pollution than CO2. You’re polluting the neighborhood with smoke, which is bad for lungs. Maybe okay in a rural area if neighbors are far away.

Since the state chart itself doesn’t contain any data, I’m wondering where the data lives and how you handle data that’s only valid in certain states? It seems like having the states separated would be rather awkward versus, say, a TypeScri

An article from a year ago [1] says 14%, capped at 15%, and no voting rights. And that was before these new investments. I wonder what they did? I suppose the remaining 1% is worth a lot more now. [1] https://www.nytimes.com/
