I like using them for coding, but I'm wary of making software that depends on an unreliable, expensive remote API. I'd rather have the agent write code and have no runtime dependency. It might be nice to have something simple and

My understanding is that it's due to better drilling techniques. The industry learned a fair bit from fracking and they're learning more from experience as they apply it to geothermal. No particular breakthrough, but there's

If you declare specific error types and callers only write handlers for specific cases, then adding a new error breaks them. If you just declare a base error type in your API, they have to write a generic error handler or it doesn't ty

That will help locally, but for a published API or a callback function where you don't know the callers, it's still going to break people if you change a union type. It doesn't matter if it's inferred or not.

The LLM's do quite a lot of reading. The question is what to feed them. (What counts as good context?)

I think the lesson is to be careful about introducing incompatibility via the type system. When you introduce distinctions, you reduce compatibility. Often that’s deliberate (two functions shouldn’t be interchangeable because it introduce

Sure, since Google is both a supplier and a competitor, it’s both vendor finance and hedging. Also, it increases their investment in AI, in general. Arguably, too much of this kind of hedging is anti-competitive. But that doesn’t seem to be

That’s a bit strong. A coding agent doesn’t know , but they’re pretty good at debugging problems. It can speculate about possible fixes based on its context.

The risks are different, but there's no getting around that the value of any investment is based on future cash flows and that's speculating about the future. To the extent that Google and Anthropic are competing for AI business,

Context: a few weeks ago, Anthropic signed a deal to buy "multiple gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity" from Google and Broadcom [1]. There have been several previous deals, too. Some people call this sort of thing a "c

You knew what the price was when you paid for it. You weren't misled. What's the injustice? Yes, it's a windfall for the business, and it would be nice for them to pass it on, but unless they promised to do it, that wasn&#x

That assumes discovering a security bug is random and it could happen to anyone, so more shots on goal is better. But is that a good way to model it? Ir seems like if you were at all likely to be giving dependencies the extra scrutiny that

Most apps aren’t standalone and the services they depend on are nontrivial to build. For example, maybe you could vibe code a guitar tuner app, but not a ride share app.

For me it’s so my coding agent keeps running when I close my laptop lid and it goes to sleep. VM in the cloud because I’m too lazy to set up a computer to be running as a server all the time.

Sometimes “better” means “customized for my specific use case.” I expect that there will be a lot of custom software that never appears in any app store.

From the announcement, I'm getting only a vague idea about what this is. It sounds like this Agent might run in some kind of sandbox with access to files? It would be nice if there were some documentation for the environment it runs in

To make this a fair comparison, you'd also need to include how much they paid you to write the script, how long it took, and how much energy you used.

There are plenty of people running Linux. The Framework laptop looks pretty sweet. Raspberry Pis are popular and cheap. It's not mainstream but it doesn't have to be. You could use an iPhone and another computer for hacking.

> Get rid of the unused on-street parking spaces and you immediately increase a suburb's density by something like 5%-10%. As you say, only for new construction. The lack of new construction is itself the problem.
