Even though Arstechnica is owned by Conde Nast, it's still my go-to for most tech news, albeit normally more specialized in certain fields. But at least once per week they have a really excellent and in-depth article about a variety of

I will only rent a car if it has CarPlay. If it doesn't then I will rent another vehicle. It's not worth trying to get maps/phone setup in a car that I haven't driven and in a location that I am unfamiliar with. Where Ca

That’s incredible. I wasn’t expecting them to allow you to run AlloyDB on premise but this is a potential game changer for on-prem Postgres instances, especially if you are doing analytical queries on the same data set.

I’ve seen drives like the Gigabyte GC-Ramdisk but never used them. But it accepts 4 sticks of ram into a PCIe card. https://www.newegg.com/amp/gigabyte-gc-ramdisk-others/p/N82E...

Intel finally started supporting ECC again on their consumer CPUs, but if only the W680 didn't cost ~$400 starting.

Past discussion with a link to Ronsor's blog post. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34681636 It looks like the source code of 0.1.25.1 has still not been released yet publicly.

In addition, I wonder if random_page_cost is not set to be 1. I've noticed on machines with SSD only pools that makes the query planner much more deterministic and utilizes indexes over sequential scans almost unused.

Personally thumb + C and thumb + V on apple keyboards always felt a lot easier than pinky finger + C and pinky finger + V which just felt and still feels weird.

With the amount of information leaks that have occurred from S3 buckets being public, I'm surprised this wasn't fixed a decade ago.

I hope they provide a good in-place method of converting them over without needing to do logical replication.

Most likely from halving the number of SSD chips and no longer striping. Though to be honest in day to day use, I only notice SSD speeds when transferring/loading video files in the tens/hundreds+ of GBs. Otherwise, as long as the

I wish those motherboards didn't cost $450+, I've contemplated building a home server with a 13th gen + ECC because you also get quicksync onboard.

I would love if Google ever open-sourced AlloyDB, having the ability to have in-sync OLTP and OLAP access for data would be extremely useful.

If you have TB3 and a thunderbolt dock you can get much more consistent results. I’ve been using a caldigit TS3 for almost 3 years now on a 2019 MBP with little to no issues, it remembers my monitors, I have a dac running out and lots of po
