Faster or lower latency? Right now traditional SSDs are extremely high bandwidth when transferring sequential files (approaching 3.5gbyte/s read and 3gbyte/s write) but they lack the random 4k IOPS to lower the perceived latency o

And nothing has made me realize just how slow the speed of light is until I started looking into the CAP theorem and distributed databases like CockroachDB.

Yeah, when thinking it through personally it comes down to a hard math problem. Because you have to maintain the state of the local files, whether they should live in memory vs ssd vs another node. Did you use an LRU cache for expunging les

Personally I would build it in something like Go. I've done a lot of work in Rails and I would probably have the signup/profile/interface built in Rails 5.2 but use a high performant go framework for the really intensive stuf

With Apple shuttering their affiliate program for iOS I hope this means the fee will drop to 15% or even 10%. Otherwise I can't see them dropping that affiliate program unless a change was in the future that could affect it.

Honestly the price difference is frankly incredible. 2990WX - $1799 Xeon Platinum 8180M - $16999 to $17999.

It actually is easier than people think, after chrome added the ability to disable shm (which isn't available on lambda) you can statically compile it into a single binary and run it with chromedriver & capybara easily. Unfortunate

My biggest concern is how long will it take to warm up from cold? But it's good knowing that it'll remain warm for 15 min.

With 2.6 JIT Ruby should be much quicker this fall. It'll be interesting to come back around once they have method inlining.

Interesting, I'm glad to know that raw access to the Cache API is being added, when I contacted Cloudflare about this a number of months ago at the time they didn't support this. For my edge CDN needs I will reevaluate cloudflare

This seems to disregard some of the other factors that make Lambda > Cloudflare Workers. We run binaries on our lambda instance with a go-based function, since Lambda allows for up to 250mb of binaries, 3gb ram and 30s max, this allows u

You can avoid SQL injection. It makes it harder to shoot yourself in the foot, though still possible to inject if your prepared statement includes a string interpolated variable.

Interesting nomenclature but with google this makes sense. 1e100 = googol, which is 1 followed by 100 zeroes. And a googlgolplex is 1 followed by a googol zeroes.
