At my job we are moving some resource expensive functions to AWS lambda, for us it is quicker to instantly horizontally scale and address load than to spin up a new instance that could take a minute to get added completely. Moving everything into lambda doesn't make sense, but for instant horizontal scaling it makes some parts of our app much more responsive and parallel.
